The thing that gets me is that the vote among conference commissioners was unanimous, including two that say they don't want to see it eliminated but studied. Then why did they vote in favor of elimination? And why are all the non-power conferences on board?

There just seems to be something amiss, unless they know the NCAA won't eliminate it and therefore their end-game is to initiate serious discussions they hope will lead to reform.

I wondered about that too. I'm surprised that this was discussed and passed without the coaches even knowing about it. Smaller budget schools will really suffer if this actually happens. I doubt it will though with so many coaches against it and with good points to make. I also like Telep's point about the small HS kids who get to actually be seen and get a 'ship they may never have had the chance for because of where they play. Those kids aren't going to be seen without the summer games.
