Anyone for a Little Cheddar?

I think the two biggest things on our side are:

1. The Cheese/WSU connection, which could be a blessing and a curse like ed said.

But it might at least get us in the door.

2. Patrick O'Bryant getting drafted in the top 10 shows you can play in the Valley and still get noticed.

Having history on our side is probably a good thing but a lot of kids like to make their own name and not follow in a father/older brother's shadow.

I think that it is more likely that a player will play where his father player (ala Archie and Eli Manning) than where a sibling played (ala the Korvers). Nonetheless, you are right to point out that our affiliation with Cheese could either hurt us or help us. On the whole, though, I don't think that it hurts us much since we wouldn't have had a in with Noel at all if it were not for his dad.

Scouthoops reports that Michigan State's Tom Izzo saw Noel last month during a trip to Georgia.

Per the news, Turg went on a recruiting trip this week. His comment was that the national exposure is allowing us to get the attention of top level players.

So, did Turg just make a trip to see Cheddar?

Haven't heard anything. I would assume that we'd get in the door without the exposure, but the exposure could go a long way in his recruiting. He's a heck of a talent and if he can see that he'll get publicity and a chance to beat anybody in the nation....

The key is success this year and next! We have the marketability (Recognizable name in a conference on the upswing), the facilities, and the coach! There are always kids that want to do well and win for an underdog, ala Gonzaga! If we can convince kids that we have a chance at a tournament run year in and year out we will be able to get a sit down with numerous top 50 and top 100 recruits. There is a niche for kids with tons of talent that aren't NBA bound after one or two years and I think we can fill it!

Ideally MT will land a couple top 100 kids for 08-09 and get an early from Noel. If that were to happen the door would be opened to more elite recruits nation wide, and if you have a larger talent pool to pull from that can only be good!

I'm not worried about recruit rankings and such. MT can flat out evaluate talent, but there is still a large number or recrtuits that WSU just can't talk to. With continued success the Ryan Gomes' of the world will be much more likely to make their mark at WSU. Noel Johnson could be the next great Shocker and the bridge between a top 40 team every year and a top 15!

Carr was instrumental in getting Cliff L. to come here. Later they become "The Bookends." Maybe Noel will come and bring another bluechipper with him? That action would remind me of the ole Gospel Hymn------"Bringing In The Cheese."(Sheaves)

That is great news! I'm glad to hear his familiarity with WSU is more than just as the son of a former great and the recent success we've had. I'm sure MT has been able to build a relationship with Cheddar that will allow WSU the opportunity to be a player in his recruitment.

HoopScoops reports that Noel's list of schools include Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Florida State, N.C. State, Ohio State & Arizona. No mention of WSU but that doesn't mean we are not in the hunt. They rank Noel as #29 in his class.

This is the first listing of schools I've come across for Noel. Anybody else heard anything?

But he is #10 on thier list.

Of course I bought this in Early November and I think it came out around the start of the school year so im sure it has changed up..

There was no mention of him in Punks, which I find t be the most indepth as far as BBrecruiting.

Cheddar is ranked #15 overall by SI. He has transferred to Fayette County HS (in GA) and is averaging 19 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals. This includes a game in which he sprained his ankle in the first half and did not play the next game. Taking that into consideration his actual numbers are probably closer to 22, 8, and 6. Not bad for a 6-7 sophomore SG.
