Wessel had a triple double. 19 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds.

For East, Ja'Ln Williams with 28 and some some think he had a pretty dominating performace over Heights' Smith.

Wessel was the best player on the court last night most of the time. He hustles and has good basketball smarts to get into position to rebound and passes well. His ball handling isn't the best. East exposed that a bit with their quickness and generated a lot of turnovers all over the court. I thought Heights' offense was better when Wessel was running the point, which he did about half the time, because he is so aware of the other players out there. He doesn't hunt his shot too often.

Perry Ellis is clearly a physically gifted player. Auer was in his grill some last night for not hustling. He can be as good a player as he wants to be, but last night he didn't look like he was trying very hard (and yet he goes off for 30). Since he is so gifted, he tends to lay back and use his explosiveness to score. I was impressed by East's players' mettle last night - they refused to back down. The overtime was decided by several run-out baskets when East started missing shots and sending everyone to the boards.

Ja'ln Williams had BY FAR the best game I have seen by him this season. He is the streakiest of streaky shooters you'll ever see and when he is cold, he keeps shooting. He is quick, but tends to dribble himself into trouble. Last night, he made several huge 3-pointers to keep East even. He has some skills and with some discipline, might be a D1 player.

It was a great high school game. Heights is dominated by seniors, but Ellis will keep them in the running next year. I will be interesting to see how he does with fewer skilled teammates in '11-'12.

        • Mr. Wessel does really see the whole floor and makes very nice passes to Perry and other teammates. He is not a great shooter yet, but can score. It feels good to keep a solid Wichita player home. He will be an asset as a Shocker.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

              • That was a terrific article, and tells you right there that Evan will probably be a 'glue' player for the Shockers, the player that just helps everything work!!!
