If you watch the MAYB video, he has some good hops.
I believe Todd is Everett Wessel's son and Evan's father.

From his commitment article in the Eagle:

"Playing for the Shockers is a family thing for Wessel, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard. His father, Todd, played football at WSU. Everett Wessel, his grandfather, played basketball."

For the person who posted that we only recruited Evan to have a chance with Perry...

"Wessel said he also visited Kansas State and Oklahoma and checked out Kansas along with sophomore teammate Perry Ellis. Auer said Minnesota, Stanford and Missouri State also recruited Wessel."

    • Maybe an added bonus for getting Wessel ... city league in?

      • In looking ahead to next year, does Ben Smith become the starting 3, and Wessel becomes the backup 3 position? (in other words, sort of replacing Hatch).

I like the fact that Evan stated that family is an important part of his life.

        • Toure start at the 3? What about T-rich getting some minutes?

          • The question might be, does Ben Smith maintain his starting 3 spot?

I am more than fine with Ben at the 3....starting.

He is one of those non-flashy players, who makes tough plays and right plays at the right time. He is not going to get you beat. Murry will get you beat.

              • I'm not trying to stir up a bees hive, but have many of you guys seen him play in person? Just curious.

I saw him against Southeast a few weeks ago at CKA and I really was pretty dissappointed in his ball handling skills. I don't see him playing 1 at any point. 3 seems more realistic. He just was not a confident ball handler in that game.

I hope I'm wrong. Afterall it was just 1 game. I hope he helps us a ton.

                • Marshall has referred to Evan as a wing guard multiple times, I can't remember the last time he mentioned Evan handling PG duties for us.

                  • Some have speculated he could play the point, I believe Auer is one of them. However, I've heard from multiple sources he's a gamer who will be a very valauble asset to the Shox during his time here.

                    • Evan sort of reminds me a bit of the late Karl Papke. Not just his color, he kind of has that shorter Kevin Mchale chest type like Papke had. His handles appear to be like Papke's not great but okay, Papke played everything from the point to the post in a pinch and was a great passer. Wessel appears to be heavier and stronger but something about the way he plays is similar. He even has the "curly" hair.

                            • Heights beat East tonight, 84-75.

Ellis had 30 points and Wessel had 19 points.

                              • Papke

If Wessel ends up resembling Karl Papke in more ways than just the hair (although not the ill-starred mentality), we will be delighted that he's a Shocker.
