  • MikeShox .... That may be true, but many of the fans on here express concerns that the coaches already know are fact. It is their job to fix it.

Learning defenses like man-to-man or zone is not rocket science, and I fail to see where it takes a whole year or 2 to learn them, especially when most of players played them in High School.

Our offense, most of the time, seems to be wandering without purpose. Why?
It looks more like street ball than organized ball. Why?

And recruiting so far, playing this year, has not been better than Paul Miller, Randy Burns, Jamar Howard, Cousinard, Kyle Wilson, or Matt Braeuar.

Toure Murry shows promise, and is the best Freshman playing this year.
Stutz is soft, and lacks quickness, but has potential IF he develops. (we are seeing in conference now what Paul Miller so adeptly pointed out when he practiced with him during the summer)

Back to my original point. There will not be a savior player.

Clevin Hannah is a bridge. He is not the super star and I for one never expected him to be. He will bring what he has to the table but his lack of speed and size will keep him from being a real star.

Toure Murry has a chance to be a star.

Reggie Chamberlain will be a role player. He will contribute what he has while the other pieces of the puzzle are put in place.

David Kyles has some serious potential, but is further away than Toure Murry. He may develop into a star, but we'll have to wait and see.

A.J. Hawkins thus far has been a disappointment. Will he find his way back to be the type of player he was the 2nd half of his Sophomore season? I don't know, but I sure hope so.

Aaron Ellis has yet to come close to the potential hoped for. Can he finally get there? He really needs to step up the 2nd half of this year. If he does not, I would hope he would look elsewhere, but he has some abilities and the problems seem to be between the ears thus far.

As for Garrett Stutz, I have to respectfully disagree with you concerning the time needed to become something special for tall centers. Many players like Garrett take significantly longer to reach their potential than the smaller guards and small forwards. This board was on Paul Miller so hard for his 1st 3 years (after his redshirt year). Some of the treatment may have been deserved, but he was far better than many fans gave him credit for. Finally, his senior year, he really reached a special level. I believe Garrett will show significantly improvement next year, but I am really excited for his junior and senior years.

I believe Coach Marshall continues to come up with good recruits. I believe Kenny Manigault will be very helpful at the point next year and will be ready to take it over the following year.

I believe that Gabe Blair will be able to provide the athletic ability to meet or exceed that of Ramon Clemente. I do have to wonder who will be able to take over the team leadership when Ramon leaves. Not to mention the rebounding.

I am very hopeful that Jerome Hamilton will be able to redshirt next year while he works on his offense. He could be our Clemente on rebounding, but I'd really like to see him reach far beyone Ramon offensively.

I am very hopeful that Johnny Coy will be able to contribute next year and take over the 3 the following year.

And believe me, I hope Orukpe will be here the year after next.

I feel that last year was a somewhat wasted year for Coach Marshall. He was still filled with mostly leftover players and with Matt hurt most of the year, it was extra tough. I am more than willing to wait and see what things are like in 2010 - 2011. If we are not a force in the Valley, then I'll bow to the non-believers and accept defeat.

        • In agreement with Mike 100 percent. I'll start looking at the Ws and Ls in'10-'11. Any coach coming into what we had would need at least two full recruiting years.

            • We had the teams way back when with awesome players like Carr and X. Then we had the Sweet 16 team with Cooz, Wilson, Miller--etc. that went 8-9 solid players deep. That is the type of player Johnny Coy reminds me of is one that can blend in with 8 to 9 other players and play solid team ball and win. Johnny Coy was a very nice addition to the Shocker foundation that HCGM is building. We rarely now sign recruits rated in the top 50 or so, like back in the day. It is like pulling hens teeth. However, I am excited about the impressive job of recruiting this Coaching Staff is doing. It just takes ample time to head back to the places we want our Shocks to lead us to. But when we get there, and we will in due time, these hard times will make these coming accomplishments seem worthwhile.

                • I still believe the 40 HRs his junior year is a mistake or typo error.

That looks to be the identical article published in the eagle. Yes 40 hr his junior year should read 10.
