Count me among the hopeful. I've seen enough youtube videos of Mr. Coy to see that he has the potential to be the kind of "do-everything" player that this team really needs, the PJ Cousniard of this group of Shockers.
I feel confident Coach Marshall will get things turned around, but it sure would be nice and put an ease in my mind if WSU would get a win by 15 tonight. The 10th is a date Johnny had hoped to have a decision by. After looking at the schedule it makes sense to me that Johnny should take his second visit to Drake on Sunday and watch both teams play. Then take a couple of days to think some more and then decide a day or two after the game on Sunday. That is the advice I am giving Johnny. I am not sure whether or not he will take that advice, but I think he should be in no rush. School starts the week of the 19th.
I was getting ready to countdown to 2 days, until I read this post. Now it could be a week or more.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall of Johnny's car to hear what he & his dad had to say on the way home from the game.
If he wants playing time, he should have seen this is the place to come!
On Sunday, we have got to be more competitive at Drake!
He's haning out with the big wigs in the CC right now. Go Shox!
Where were they sitting last night? My seats are across from the visitor’s bench and it looked like a father and son were sitting in the first or second row behind our bench near our strength coach (KR)... just curious if that was them? If so, they both seemed to enjoy themselves during the second half comeback... especially when Hannah hit the ‘trey’ from 8' beyond the arc.
We sure could use some good news to help 'stem the tide'... like, "Here's Johnny!"
:good: :good:

If it's a choice between Drake and WSU and basketball will be the deciding factor, I think Drake has the upper hand.
If baseball will be the deciding factor, then as most have already said, WSU should be on top.
Only Johnny Coy knows what is best for Johnny Coy. You can bet all on SN and in Shocker Nation would want Mr. Coy here at Koch Arena and Eck Stadium. Johnny sounds like a mature enough young man to know to listen to his parents, figure out his own desires, and then make his decision. After all, HE is the one that has to live with whatever path he chooses.
We will all know before too much longer where his future lies.

Honestly if the Basketball program and facilities is the deciding factor, WSU would have the upper hand, but the only reason Drake is in on this is because of their coach. Johnny really likes him and that's understandable, he went after him when no one else was interested (except WSU). But if it were strictly a decision based on facilities and future potential, I would HOPE WSU would win over Drake. I just hope Marshall and Gene were as likeable as Drake's coach.

What are you smoking?
When we are playing in front of 15,000 in IBA with a stable of highly recruited, big athletic basketball players, Drake will return to their rightful place in the bottom half of the MVC.

If professional baseball is his ultimate goal and he feels he can accomplish that by playing summer ball, don't underestimate the significance of an existing relationship with the coach. If Coy is as good as he appears to be, he may be the type of player that can keep Drake at a winning level.
I'm certainly not saying he should go there (I think he'd be the perfect final recruit for our '09 class), but I can completely understand the logic if he does.
I just wanted to throw something out there about Johnny that most people don't know:
1. Johnny is a guy who was 18 (like most graduates) when he graduated last year from high school. However, his birthday is July 5, 1989. That being said, all players who go to a four year school are not eligible for the mlb draft until they are 21 which is usually after their junior year. In Johnny's case he will be 19 at the time of the 2009 draft (upcoming draft) and 20 at the time of the 2010 draft (Johnny's redshirt freshman year). But having a July birthday he will be considered draft eligible in 2010 based on the fact that his birthday is within 45 days of the June draft. So actually Johnny will be eligible for the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 drafts if that makes any sense to anyone on this board. That is a really lucky break for Johnny to have. Not saying he is ready to play pro ball or has any interest in the 2010 draft, but that is just another thing for him to think about. Coach Stephensen really focused on the advantages of playing all four years in his program and he really made a lot of sense. Just wanted to throw that bit of information to the board.
