Remember Sampay? He LOI'd to Turgeon and when Turgeon left, got a release. There was a lot of discussion at that time about whether a condition could be put on the release so he could not transfer to another Valley school ---- which is exactly where he transferred.

        I thought Sampay only committed

You're probably right. I just remember being pissed. If he wanted out, fine, but not to another Valley school.

I think they can sign an LOI. Didn't Hannah? After the late signing period is over they can sign a "scholarship agreement". I believe that is what Ejike Hart did, though I could be wrong.

I think Turgeon left a few days before the start of the signing period. As such, Sampay would not have signed an LOI.

                Sampay hadn't signed anything.

Does the fact that MSU has a coaching change have anything to do with letting the kid out of his LOI ? Did Bowles sign a LOI or just a verbal ? I beleive he got out of it with no "sit out" year. These are questions not comments.

BTW, there is no way that pic is taken in MO, they all had shoes on and a few of them had teeth.

If you're released from your LOI you don't have to sit out a year. If you're not granted a release and still go elsewhere then you do have to sit out I believe. Unless you petition the NCAA and they grant you an exemption or something.

I thought that with a coaching change you could get out of your LOI without a release. I've been in Missouri for four years and my brain could not be functioning correctly.

You still have to get a release, but if the school doesn't grant it, the NCAA has shown in recent years that more likely then not they will step in let you go elsewhere without being punished.

IIRC, this kid was Barry's prize recruit. I wouldn't have any idea why Zo wouldn't want him. There is probably a lot more to the story. It doesn't take long to go from hero to zero down here. It would really upset some people if he went to WSU.

Thanks for the clarification Sub. I bow to the west.

This was one of Barry's better recruits. On paper anyway. I'd guess there are definitely other issues. My guess is he will prep or go JUCO.

The Oklahoman is the number one source for Oklahoma City breaking news, politics, business, sports, entertainment and obituaries.

Holdman is going Juco at Midland. He was not granted a release by MSU. He plans to transfer after one year, most likely to play basketball and walk on for football.
