Carter also earned offers from Iowa State and Memphis last weekend. He is receiving tons of other high-major interest and plans to wait until the spring to decide on a school. Carter will be in Wichita this weekend for the Mullen Showcase.
He needs to realize that we have a good record with recruits by the name of SHAQ, and JUCO AA recruits by the name of CARTER. Shaq Carter would fit in nicely.

Seems like a perfect time for him to make an unofficial visit to the Wichita State campus. During an evaluation period that can't meet off-campus with players but they can meet with them on-campus. (If I understand the rules correctly which is far from guaranteed.)

That's kind of an ancillary benefit of have these showcase events at Wichita Hoops and the Wichita Sports Forum. If there are recruits participating in those Wichita events it is a perfect time to make an unofficial visit (if I am correct that those are allowed during and evaluation period).

I'm waiting for us to offer a Darius Morris.

I was curious about this as well and also wonder whether these guys can play in pick up games with the local D1 players. Not that the recruits have that much time on their hands.

I would suspect that the rules that allow high schoolers to attend these events probably prohibit such visits though.

I would think that unsigned high school grads and seniors-to-be who can sign in November could make an unofficial visit and meet with the Coaches. Not sure about underclassmen.

That is why we have NCAA Compliance people hired to find answers to these questions. Coach M has been very cognizant of rules during his time at WSU.

Not sure unofficials are permitted in July?

July is part dead period and part evaluation period. During a dead period the coaches can't meet with the player in any setting. However, the player can visit the campus but can't have any contact with the coaches on that visit.

During an evaluation period they can have on-campus visits with the player (either official or unofficial). During the remainder of July there is evaluation period running from 5:00 pm Wednesday July 19th through 5:00 pm Sunday July 23rd and one from 5:00 pm Wednesday July 26th through 5:00 pm Sunday July 30th. The remaining days outside of those dates are dead periods.

You can find the various recruiting periods (quiet, dead, evaluation or recruiting) on the NCAA Recruiting Calendar. Finding what can or can't be done during each period requires a bit of research but my thesis on that is here.

At least that is how I understand the mish mash of rules for different periods.

As @shockmonster pointed out that's why we have compliance people in the athletic department.

Shaq Carter in Wichita this weekend. Probably won't commit to after he finishes his sophomore year this coming season.
