    • Really would like to see us lock down a top notch recruit for 2018 ASAP... We are looking at the distinct possibility of having to replace 7 scholarship players next year...

        • I've added 8 players to the list based on twitter information. I can't confirm we are heavily recruiting all of these players, but we are at least "talking" to them. If I was a betting man, I'd say we end up offering at least one of them.

With the attention Landry is getting, it might be 8.

Is this unusual for us not to have at least one or two LOIs or commitments at this point in the recruiting process? How does this compare to other years?

I'm trying not to panic but the lack of any commitments for 2018 is a bit concerning. Someone please talk me down off of the ledge...

It is literally impossible for us to have any LOIs at this point for 2018 given that the first signing period for that class isn't until the fall (November, I believe). In terms of commitments, they can certainly happen over the summer, although often it is late summer as AAU and schools visits have had a chance to finish up. In any case, the fall signing period is really the strong indicator of recruiting success. While we don't need to fill all of our scholarships in the fall since the spring signing period will still have talent available, getting several LOIs from guys we have been prioritizing will be important, but worrying about not having any verbals 6 months before the fall signing period is over thinking things.

TLDR: At least wait until the end of summer to worry about a lack of verbal commitments, but really wait until you see what happens in the fall signing period to get a handle on how recruiting is going.

              • To get a reference point for how much players are actually committing to schools at this point in the process, only 28 of the Rivals Top 150 for 2018 are listed as having verbal commitments.

And no way to know how many of those 28 verbals will prove to be fulfilled in November.

Thanks for sharing and putting this in perspective. I guess the off-season, lack of any real basketball news and the huge number of schollies we have available is feeding my panic. I'm calmer now. Not much, but every little bit helps!

The fall signing period is Nov 8-15. That means there is a VERY real chance we are going to enter a Critical signing period with a Single digit number next to our name in the Polls (probably Top 5). That can't hurt.

                            • Assuming that nobody redshirts, transfers, or leaves early for NBA (all of which likely won't happen because there always seems to be a non-senior leave), this is what our class breakdown will look like for the 2018-19 team and the currently open scholarships for this upcoming recruiting class:

                              Soph 2
                              Jr 3
                              Sr 2
                              SIX OPEN SCHOLARSHIPS

All things being equal, how would you like to see those open scholarships filled? I'm thinking that four high school recruits, a juco transfer, and a grad transfer might be nice. Getting some better class balance would be good.

On the same concept, what do we need as far as position need breakdown? I'm not nearly as knowledgeable to spell out that one, so I'm curious what you all think.
                              78-65
