While academics obviously are important to him, he may also have some NBA dreams too and with his slim build, he may be looking for a school who can develop him. Additionally, he didn't sound as if his focus was only on academics.

Yep, we’re going off topic a bit, but that’s when some of us do our best work. :)

I know several area doctors that obtained their undergraduate degrees from WSU and are KU Medical School graduates. I’ve heard them say that it can be more difficult for KU undergraduates to be accepted into KU Med than undergrads from other Kansas universities. Logic would say otherwise, but there may be some truth to this...

“The KU School of Medicine shows a strong preference for Kansas residents, but does not select on the basis of whether or not a candidate completes an undergraduate education at KU. The medical school also shows favor for residents of other states who have significant Kansas ties, and one way to establish a tie is to attend a college or university in Kansas.”

This isn’t an attack on @wufan:, however a comment like this has always ‘bugged’ me; what is considered an elite school and who defines “elite”? The “elites”?

Sorry man! It's mainly based on the number of applicants that apply to post grad medical programs vs the number of science degrees (while you don't need a science degree, you do need the core science curriculum...this tells you how much emphasis is placed on post grad medical training), and the number of applicants accepted vs total applicants. When you look at KSU, WSU, FHSU, Pitt St, and Washburn, you will find that they have relatively few applicants for Med school vs science majors. KU, OTOH, has a high percentage of students that are pre-med, but an average # accepted.

Several KCAC liberal Arts schools also do quite well in placing pre-med students in post grad opportunities; for instance, when I attended Southwestern College, they placed 100% of grads over a 4 year period in med school. That was 12 students, and those 12 students comprised of about 20% of all science grads (which is very high). At that time, WSU placed about 15% of all applicants and that comprised of about 5% of all science majors. KU also placed about 15% of grads, but it was about 20% of all students in the science department.

In my medical school class (250 students), 4 students were from the KCAC, three from Southwestern, 7 or 8 went to KU, 2 went to KSU, and one was from WSU. All others were Not from Kansas (I didn't go to med school in KS).

If you are interested in becoming a doctor, these are important things to consider, but obviously a successful student will be successful.

Apparently Keenan took an unofficial to WSU this summer. He says Stanford and WSU are recruiting him the hardest. http://www.todaysu.com/recruiting/cb...an-fitzmorris/

Kansas Newman has probably the highest ratio of applicants who were accepted to medical school anywhere on earth. Great undergraduate science program.

KU's freshman class size is usually in the 200-225 range, with 160-180 coming from instate.

He's got some skills, but he's a work in progress. If his build catches up to his height, he could be real good.

Sounds like Keenan hasn't been missing very many shots so far this season. He had 18 points, 12 rebounds on Friday and 20 points in the championship game on Saturday.
