I'm not gonna get into the nit pick of his skills. You guys can watch the film and take whatever you want from it. Here's my input on Austin and his "ability" to play the 1.

He was recruited to play the 1. Time will tell. But I've thought he was a 1 since I first saw him. As a freshman he started at the 1 on a state championship team that beat Malik Monk in the finals. As a freshmanfreshman he started at the 1 and played against 6A power Jonesboro and was guarded by Karon Ross (2 year starting PG at Lehigh. Patriot league freshman of the year last year, 1st team all conference this year) who is 5'11 and UNBELIEVABLY quick. Austin had ZERO turnovers with Karon on him the entire game.

Take that however you want.

The things you can't see on tape are what makes Austin great. His demeanor, his motor, his IQ between plays, his ability to communicate on both ends of the floor, his leadership skills on the floor and in the huddle, his ability to "audible" from one play to another like a QB. And his ability to adjust on the the fly for himself and for his team. You see none of that on tape. When Austin needed to score, he scored. When he felt like one of his teammates needed some confidence or needed to get going he gave them the ball in their most comfortable positions. Austin had 50+ point games at will and also had 20/14/12 games when he needed to. Against the back to back state Champs in the regional tournament he had 23/9/5.... At Halftime.

Call him what you want. I believe he's a PG. He believes he is a PG. Greg Marshall believes he is a PG. When you see him in person you're going to be surprised. He's tall, long, broad, has the ball on a string, and has a burst that you don't see coming. I'm biased.... But I truly believe you have a top 100 recruit coming your way. Time will tell if he turns into a top player in the conference. But if you bet against him be prepared to lose money. I've never seen him not do something he said he was going to do.

From what I have found I see very little video showcasing his passing. I understand that is the way of most highlight reels. I would love a link.

I see no PG potential at all. His ball handling is awful. Look for when Austin drives and constantly watches the ball.His head is down for nearly the entirety of the game. Look for his dribble-to-shot action, he often has to take an extra second to gather the ball. The passing is a question just because I haven't seen much. Same with FVV's video -- it's commonplace to leaves those out, or to not pass when your a talented HS player.

Austin's hope is that he gets coached by our ball confidence guro, and cracks the 2 and 3 spots. He is aballer for sure. However, Landry is inmeasureably better with the ball and the pass. There's no future for Austin as the head of WSU's ship.

Can't recall the exact video. Here is one by ARShocker. The moment his looks at the floor gets really noticeable is at 50 seconds and on. I think he even had to re-calibrate after a simple behind the back move. He scans the floor after he picks up his dribble, but is looking directly down when the ball is live. As for the grasping for the off-the-dribble shot, you can see the fumbling a 1:37. Granted he nails the shot. Off the dribble is very difficult to do, but is the sign of great ball handling. It is an unfair comparison to watch him and FVV, but FVV had ZERO trouble with any dribbling, or off the dribble shots. You can watch FVV Senior year Rockford highlights and see the same FVV scoop dribble and pull. It's amazing to go back and watch, actually.

Like I said, I would love to see a video where he passes. I've seen very few.

What has happened to this forum? I used to enjoy coming here to find out any new information on our Shockers.

It seems like with Fred and Ron gone, several (not all) are nit picking at our current players and incoming recruits and declaring how they aren't going to be good enough. I don't recall a year where so much negativity has been generated about our future team/players as what we are seeing now.

People that are questioning this kid will eat their words this is by far the best kid I have seen on film since we signed cleanthony. AR is a cross between shawn Livingston and Gordon Hayward. He has a different type of handle than fred but he is also 5-6 inches taller. I fully except him to be a multi year starter and an all league type player.

I understand how you feel he was recruited, ARShocker. I see your points. I think AR has the potential to be a very good 2 or 3. You seriously can't watch AR finish at the rim without thinking of Baker, or McDuffie (who handles the ball well at 6.8). I'm really hoping our assistant coaches will work with him on his handles and court vision. That being said, Gregg Marshall is the type to recruit a PG who has proven himself already - think Armstead, or any other of the names still in his 2016 hat. Obviously FFV and others were in the mix too, but GM himself has said he likes to recruit that way. My 2 cents is the same as most on here: AR may contribute in the fall of 2017 if he doesn't get over recruited.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount eagle's evaluation. He was involved in evaluating many of the player's that have played at WSU in recent years when they were in high school.
