If you are right, then Anton isn't eligible to play on the foreign trip either. I have a feeling that the academic year can begin in the summer if one chooses. If not, the summer school hours wouldn't count on the upcoming school year, when our players come in this summer, and I'm pretty sure they do. It may be that summer school can count either way.

That's ignoring the basketball exception, which appears to allow him to go provided he completes 3 hours of credit this summer:

"17.29.1.4.1.1 Exception—Basketball. In basketball, it is permissible for an incoming student athlete(freshman or transfer) to represent the institution on a foreign tour that occurs during the summer prior to his or her initial full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and participate in practice prior to departure for the foreign tour pursuant to Bylaw 17.29.1.5, provided the following conditions are met: (Adopted: 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10) (a) He or she has earned at least three hours of acceptable degree credit (toward any of the institution’s degree programs) during the summer term at the certifying institution; and (b) He or she is eligible to represent the institution in intercollegiate competition during the academic year immediately following the tour."

Well, that sounds like we are good to go for both guys.

There may be an exception, but if the hours for this summer don't count on next year's academic year, why do our players take them? I know that the incoming Frosh take the hours so that they have a head start on the next year. Then they take fewer hours during the year.

            • Let me help you. Most basketball players take summer school so that they don't have to take more hours each year (with basketball travel that causes them to be over taxed if they take a regular semester school load of 16 hours) than they are capable of. They usually take 12 (maybe 14 hours) hours or so and supplement it with summer school so they still take a 28-32 hour schedule.

I understand how both average course load and summer classes work. I have no idea what you are saying about those classes not counting for transfer students.

                  • The "academic year" point is interesting, and it's the only way I could see CF's situation being different from Devoe Joseph, the Oregon transfer in 2011 who wasn't eligible for Oregon's summer trip. He transferred to Oregon for the spring semester, so he wouldn't have made one full academic year.

Freshmen stats don't look great, but he was ESPN #58 for 2014,and his high school/AAU videos look pretty damn impressive.

                        • I don't see us going after another big who isn't immediately eligible, or even one that is eligible if we are indeed in on Isaac.

                          • I doubt we go after him as well, although I wouldn't mind having a 7'2" backup for a year that could start his Jr.and Sr. years if/when Isaac moves on. (Dream big right?)

                              We don't recruit backups here.
