It has to (or had to be) Cheick Diallo or Thon Maker. Maybe we were in on Thon Maker before he trimmed his list and that's off the table now. I believe the term "lunker" is straight out of Cold's dictionary and a "lunker" would never be a 6'5" player, let alone a JUCO. Or maybe the whole lunker rumor was conjured up to get people to head over and read the wheatshockers website.

So I went and looked up a highlight video of this kid, as he's Top 10 ranked and was the MVP of the McD's All American game.

Yes, he seems to play with energy, but he's not crazy athletic.

He's 6'9 225 and I didn't see 1 jump shot. He may be a great rebounder and he might be able to guard smaller players on the perimeter, but Top 10?

I don't see it.

Outside of Kentucky and KU, he visited Iowa State, Pittsburgh and St John's. Those seem more reasonable, but maybe Self sees a guy who will stick around a few years and play with more effort.

I think I like Anton here. He is a plug and play and could start from day one. We're trying to go out with a bang here, not develop another big for the future. We've got Nurger, Shaq, Rashard, Hamilton, Brown and McDuffie for the future. I think I like bringing in a somewhat proven senior here.

Agree. Gives us an extra schollie next year too. Although I wouldn't be upset with either of the juco bigs we are in on

This. We've got a lot of youth preparing to come on for two years away ... but two years away doesn't matter.

WSU's best chance at a national championship run would be next year, with FVV and Baker as seniors. We have an army of youth ready to follow them once they're gone, so we're hardly going to be hurting in future years. Anything we can do to make next year's team as complete and dominant as possible is what matters.

I trust a proven D1 senior, even if it's in the Horizon League, to be a much bigger contributor this coming year than a JUCO transfer. And this coming year is all I care about right now. Load the cupboard for Fred and Ron and let this team go to work. The only thing this team needs is an experienced big.
