"The way Old Dominion treated me, I felt like I was their No. 1 option," he said. "I didn't feel that same kind of love from Wichita State."
Sorry, Payton - must not have been the right fit.

I don't know the kid and I realize most players want to feel pursued (maybe this post should be the start of a new thread titled "How are basketball recruits like women?" ;) ), but a public comment like that makes me think there's more ego there than might be welcomed on a Marshall-coached team.

Best of luck to Mr. Pervier.

Given WSU's current scholarship situation and collection of post players, especially including the expected signing of Eric Hamilton, Pervier probably was NOT WSU's #1 target. Royal may have a point about ego, who knows; and if so that might not work well for him here. But good luck to him anyway.

Translation: "I was treated like a #1 option at ODU. WSU is recruiting players at my position who are better than me, and I was not considered a #1 option at WSU."

Sorry, Payton. Best of luck to you. Just don't make it sound like there was some shortcoming in the amount of love our coaches make a player feel.

I am certain that our staff showed respect, indicated interest and was up-front with him. This was 100% about WSU going a different direction and him wanting to name drop a top program that recruited him.

I'm being mean. I take all of it back. :)

With our scholarship situation, I'm sure we told him "We'll call you if we need you".

              Good luck at ODU.
