  • Payton Pervier 7-1 C verbal to ODU

    @Jeffrey Korchek:</a>
Guess I'm surprised no one has said anything about this yet (via Paul Suellentrop's Twitter):

"Dodge City CC center Payton Pervier visited WSU on Wednesday, according to his Twitter account. Pervier, 7-1, is a sophomore from Snomish, Wash. He averaged 19 points and 16 rebounds at Edmonds CC in Washington as a freshman."

Reminds me of Stutz, but a bit thicker and quicker. Not sure what the competition was like his freshman year, but those are some serious stats!

    Work hard young man!

He's playing against a lot of 6'5" guys, no? Got good feet though, and some quickness.

He looks pretty good offensively. I wonder how well he runs the court?

In that case, he should be good to go against at least half our league.

If we were to get him, and depending on how we are in the post in a couple of years, it might be good if he had a redshirt year to get him used to our system.

I don't know anything about the competition in that league but it doesn't look very good. Making the move to the jayhawk conference should provide a better gauge of his abilities.

He' got that one handed hook shot down pretty damn good. Plus you can't teach 7'-1". Redshirt year would be huge under Marshall. I'd take him fer sure. Looks a level or two better than Stutz when comparing their high-school videos.

Reminds me of Garrett Stutz, which begs the question; how are his feet on defense?

                        Payton Pervier

I attended a scrimmage a couple of weeks ago, & while sitting close to the floor on the east side, I turned to the left & noticed a really tall guy standing in the tunnel which naturally piqued my curiosity. I asked a guy sitting in front of me who attends a lot of practices if he knew who this guy is. He said he goes to Dodge City CC & that the WSU coaching staff is interested in him. He also said the man standing next to him is his coach, so I assume he meant the Dodge City CC coach. I don't think this was an official recruiting visit either because the WSU coaches were not supervising the scrimmage.

I've always wondered who Doc is because he seems to know quite a bit about almost every WSU sport. The person I talked to was a nice black man who said his brother played basketball at WSU years ago - perhaps in the 70's andhis last name was Bell, if I recall correctly. The man I talked to also said he has a grandson in Wichita who is a very good basketball player at the high school level.

                              Who is @WuDrWu:?

That is a great question. Let me see if I can shed some light.

Mods, forgive me if this should have its own thread.

The legend of @WuDrWu: started many moons ago on the prairie. He(sexist assumption I know)!was first seen tripping up referees along court-side during the mid 90's basketball game. Of course, he had around much prior, but this situation, though some question its validity, started a conversation in this thing called a "Chatroom". Then he began appearing everywhere. Womens basketball, baseball, track and field, volleyball, baseball, and there were even some grainy black and white photos that suggest he was on the sideline of Football games(although the validity of these are also questioned).

What we know for fact is that he can be found most days sporting a WSU hat, which in Wichita doesnt allow him to be spotted easily as the sea of crimson and blue has been diluted with black and yellow recently. And we know that he will talk about WSU to any crimson and blue wearing smug, many of whom have never been to the Lawrence campus. Many a KU fan has spoken of interactions with a man described as fiercely loyal to WSU. He is not 10 feet tall as they say, but even The Big Show looks up to him.

He is a FAN among fans. A supporter of teams and coaches with no regards to wins and losses. He is a sharer of experiences with many who would have never else-wise gotten to go. He is a man who knows people, only due to his selfless seeking out of anyone who enjoys talking about the Shockers. He is a family man, who puts them even so slightly above the Shockers (minus a few, understandable exceptions). He is a friend to many, and an enemy only to those who argue with gross assumptions against his Shockers as he can face facts better than most.

So, in the end, who is WuDrWu? He is one of 10,506 at any basketball game. One of 2,700 that attend volleyball games, one of 3,100 that attend baseball games. One of 400 that attend softball games.

My suggestion is if you want to know @WuDrWu:, GO! If you attend these 4 events over a span of a season, and pay attention, you will find him. However, many have not due to most fans being of a sport, and not a University. HE is the most supreme fan of WSU you will find, and the person every fan should aspire to be. I hope that helps answer your question.
