It was discovered that since December, new users weren't getting their validation emails, hence no new posters since then. In the course of enabling a workaround while the email issue was looked at, spam accounts were/are getting created.

I'm not sure it's spam... that statement sounded better than around 50% of the crap I hear out of the mouths of people here in Kentucky every day....
