  • Peyton Allen, 6-5 SG, '14 Transfers to WSU

    Just saw this tweet today:

    Vol Basketball @AllVolBall
Vols have offered a scholarship to 6'5 Guard @peytonallen22. Also has offers from TAMU, Butler, Wichita St.
Didn't have time to do much research, just that he's from Springfield, IL.

I like the sound of 6-5 SG.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

We've had darn good luck with our last basketball recruit from Springfield, IL.

I'm drawing a blank. What former player was from there?

Peyton did retweet the one I posted, without correction, and he's followed by coach Heiar.

I searched all over SB Nation. Didn't find us mentioned at all.

Of course, the same could be said of Tekele Cotton. Hmmmmm.

It's tough to keep track when the girls go by guys' names.

Doesn't it seem like we are looking at adding BOTH a post and a wing?

Yes, and if you watch the offers closely, probably a center and a PG as well. We offer far more positions and scholarships than we have room to add. It doesn't mean much until/if they sign.

Best available player we can sign would be an either/or.

Maybe, I hadn't noticed any current offers with point guards though, just interest, etc.

I suspect that a lot of this ongoing recruiting and interest in players has as much to do with relationship building and keeping a high profile in the recruiting circles as I does in actually expecting or looking to sign many of these guys. You never know when one of these guys may decided to transfer in a couple of years and having that relationship can come in handy. I think Malcolm Armstead is a good example of that. 3G mentioned on the Coach K interview that the had recruited Malcolm a couple of times and that he ended up contacting 3G when he decided to transfer from Oregon.
