Landry Shamet bypasses visits to Kansas State, Colorado, and Illinois to play for the defending Missouri Valley Champions.

While Shamet's rating may somewhat be a byproduct of those who recruited him - considering he wasn't in the Rivals150 until after he received offers from WSU and Colorado - his rise to the #87 recruit in the nation is entirely warranted considering his 20.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 3.4 apg for a middling Park Hill team that went 14-14 on the season.

If we called out every player that had their rating influenced by the "name" offers they had, every article about a recruit would call it out. Not that I disagree with his conclusion. But it is funny that guys are now jumping that high on boards because of WSU being on their list.

I don't think that the schools recruiting a player have that much to do with ranking, more than the recruiting services are just behind all the well paid, experienced coaches that recruit these kids.

But to the average fan, it can look like group-think.

That quote was nice, and should be shared with our Valley brethren.

                  The rivals update:

It has become impossible to argue with the results being achieved on the floor at Wichita State. Gregg Marshall and the Shockers are finding talent, developing it and winning at a high level. Wednesday morning, they won a high level recruit.

Landry Shamet is headed to Wichita State.
Four-star combo guard Landry Shamet out of Kansas City Park Hill gave the Shockers a verbal commitment just a few days after returning from his official visit to Wichita State. "I just loved it too much and I knew it in my heart that's where I wanted to go," Shamet told Rivals.com. "I liked being around those guys and playing with those guys.
"I really have a great relationship with the coaching staff down there and I just can't wait to be a part of it."
Standing 6-foot-4, Shamet went from unknown to one of the hottest guard recruits in the country thanks to his play on the grassroots circuit with the KC Pumas.
Capable of playing either the point or shooting guard position, Shamet is a fundamentally sound guard who is very good off of the dribble. He is a high level pull-up jump shooter, intelligent passer and has a tendency to make the correct play much more often than not.
Shamet was originally scheduled to take official visit to Colorado, Kansas State (who may have eliminated themselves last week when they landed Barry Brown) and Illinois in addition to the just finished trip to Wichita. However, Marshall's track record of success, the heavy pursuit of assistant coach Steve Forbes combined with a strong visit were enough to win a verbal commitment without any further visits.
Ranked No. 87 overall in the Rivals150, Shamet is Wichita State's first commitment from the class of 2015.

"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

"That's the definition of a stool sample."

So, I wonder if he's done growing. The article said he grew several inches from his sophomore to junior year.

He reminds me of Toure when he was a high school senior.

Good comparison, seems to have a better shot, although hard to tell on a highlight tape

Interesting comparisons -- if Shamet ends up being comparable to either Murry or Baker in his performance at WSU, the Shocks will have done very well indeed. Those are high standards.

Very good news and interesting that he dropped all his other official visits. This young man seems to be the kind of high character kid that flourishes in Coach Marshall's system. I really am pleased with Landry's commitment.

Congrats to the Shocker Coaches and players and welcome to Shocker Nation Landry. Looking forward to following a great career from you.
