Shamet Wows in the Dunk Contest

The finals of the dunk contest came down to Landry Shamet of Park Hill and Tyrone Gibbs of Raytown South. Shamet won it on his first dunk in the final round.

He soared high, wrapped the ball through his legs and slammed the ball through. The sensational dunk brought 10s from the judges, fans to their feet and a female friend down from the stands to give him a hug.

        • Looks odd seeing him in a maroon colored uni with the word Missouri on it.

          • Our positions 1-4 should be deep and good enough that we have competition in practice and that we can defend our opponents by being in their shorts, full court, for the entire game. If we do this, we may leave our 5's on an island which may challenge their abilities. Hopefully, they can build enough depth at 5 that we can still play like this. I wonder if Hamilton and/or Kelly may be partial answers to building this depth.

              • Morris/BWam/Nurger might be able to hold down the post on most nights. Development is still required.

FVV/Baker/Brown in the backcourt is a very good defense. Kelly can press/trap from the 4 and Wessel is an ok defender. While Taylor has a reputation as a defensive stopper, he's the most likely to RS IMO. Hopefully the other freshman (and Conner) learn to defend quickly.

                    Glad he thought so too.

The depth will come from those who know the offense and defense and those who learn it quickly. The returning players have the upper hand in this regard. Even though he has to sit out until December, the extra year will help Conner learn what he needs to do and where he needs to be. The newbies who are quick learners will have the advantage over those who struggle.

Hamilton has also had some exposure.

Taylor has just spent a year at Hargrave Academy. Dont see him redshirtin. In additio, he broke nearly all of Alec Burks' records at Grandvirw High School. See below:

Burks attended Grandview High School, where in 2009 he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Missouri. As a senior, he averaged 23.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He was also named the Kansas City Star and Metro Sports Player of the Year during his senior year.[1]

Prior to his senior year of high school, Burks signed with Colorado during the November 2008 signing period.[1]

Considered a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com, Burks was listed as the No. 49 shooting guard and the No. 196 player in the nation in 2009.[2]

There is another factor. Shockers known for vicious and agressive preseason conditioning. A lot depends on how the new recruits respond to that. I think in many ways that is what Marshall refer to as getting stronger. Some adjust quicker than others.
