If I was Coach and if Hamilton is willing to do what it takes to play, I'd tell him to learn the 5 position. I'd ask him to rebound, and protect the rim with his athleticism. He has great ups. We are going to be so deep at the 3-4 with Kelly, Wessel, and McDuffie that we don't need him to play those positions. We also may have Baker, and Shamet in addition to Wessel that can play the 3 in addition to the 2. I'd tell Hamilton that if he wants to play, he needs to show us that position first or redshirting would be the other option for him. If not, he may be wasting a year for us trying to play a position where we are very deep. He may need to learn to play with his back to the basket but in today's game, with so many picks being set at the top of the key for point guards, the traditional Center isn't as necessary as in the past. This is just a thought to get Hamilton into games at a position where we are not as deep.

I'm not going to disagree. At the very least, he will be learning another skill at the D-I level and getting some actual playing time to learn it.

By the way, I think he has the size (or will) to do this at the highest level.

Got to watch Sunrise Prep play Creating Young Minds from Irving, TX tonight. CYM had players in grade 11-12. So the game was played in the standard 8-minute quarters high school format. Sunrise was by far the better team and the game resembled something of an exhibition game.

Eric Hamilton has size. His appearance kind of reminds me of Montrezl Harrell of Louisville. He's got a bulkier build, at least bulkier than McDuffie. After watching him play tonight, I would say EH future is more at the 4 position. EH picked up two quick fouls in the first half and only played a forgettable five minutes. His body language on the bench was quesitonable, I don't know if it was the refeeres or the lack of the competition. I believe he scored 6 points in the second half, all in close to the hoop. He does shoot a nice looking three pointer, he will certainly be a threat from out there. He just looked a step slow all night. It's hard to evaluate Hamilton after just 10-15 minutes of gametime. The physical ability is there, he just needs to improve his motor and knowledge of the game if he wants to be effective at the D1 level.

A few notes on the other Sunrise players. Nathan Bain (Stephen F Austin) can jump out of the gym, he'll get minutes at SFA. Jamaal McMurray (S. Florida) looks too small to play at the D1 level to me. Matthew Neufeld (St. Louis) listed at 6-11, but didn't look taller than 6-9. I'm sure we'll see him a few times over his career, but I wouldn't be too scared! I really liked Travis Munnings (uncommitted) game, some school is going to get a talent with him. DuPree McBrayer (Minnesota) didn't really stand out. Brett Barney (uncommitted) from Maize actually played very well, I could see him being successful at a lower level D1 school.

Eric is not a post up player now and is going to probably be only an occasional back to the basket guy when the matchup is right.
Eric had 6 points and 5 rebounds but lots of buts....
The problem with tonight is the game was so one sided and 8 minute quarters he probably got less than 15 min of action. Also Sunrise has good guards that love to score and finish. Not a lot of touches for Eric when he was in there. He had his shot blocked once and missed a layup but also had a couple of nice moves using his left hand.

He also picked up two fouls where he was simply slow to react on a switch and the a defensive rebound. His blocking out will have to get better as a first order if he wants to play for HCGM, that's for sure.


The best thing about Eric is he can absolutely fly down the court, I mean faster that anybody his size that I have seen In a long time. He supposedly can fill it up from outside but he never even got a shot outside 5 deet that I can recall.

He has a chance to be a really good defender just because of his length and speed.

I need to watch him at least two more times to get a fair sample simile but he obviously has more to his game that he got to show tonight. I would say there is a 50% chance he redshirts but this summer will tell a lot.
