Getting the thread back on track with some quick hitters:

        1. I used to coach his old brother in middle school on a select team. Ended up focusing on soccer and being pretty good at it. Very talented family athletically. If Ben has his speed he'll be able to run the break.

        2. On that note - I'm fairly good sized and played against a lot of big guys. I can honestly say his Dad was physically intimidating - I think he played OL at A&M. If Ben has his presence, there won't be any worries about having a space eater in the lane.

        3. The MTXE on Alamo Heights' jerseys is from their old coach, Charlie Boggess. He started in the late 70s, won more than 20 games for something like 25 years in a row, and is one of the more noteworthy in the history of SA high school basketball. I helped coach his son's Little League team one year and had a chance to ask him why he stole it from the Shocks. The look he gave me made it pretty clear that he'd had a good thing going down here making people believe he'd invented it.

        4. Ricky - there may still be some Old Army at A&M, but it ain't what it was. I've been on campus for a basketball or football game each of the last 8 years, and I'm pretty sure half the student body can't name the statues. Out-damn-standing fan base (football) though.

        5. I'll try to get out and see this kid and report back. Heights plays 4A, which means they're not quite at the athletic level of the 5A schools, although I would call it comparable to 6A in the City League just because the schools are so much bigger down here.

Glad we're taking a look at this kid.

Hos dad might play more of a factor than he is letting on. Hullabaloo Caneck Caneck and that ring are pretty strong traditions with really strong feelings.

I've heard of the War Hymn, and I know Aggies are as steeped in tradition as they come, but as an outsider I had to look up Hullabaloo, etc. Still, what's more important, a thumbs up and howdy, or a trip to the Final Four?

Too bad, big boy. You will hear it a lot this year. Next year, not so much.

Maybe not, Ricardo. I live in Houston. I have been watching him during the offseason. He's turning into a white man's Vince Young. Oversleeping @Payton Manning camp, disrespectful to not only coaches, but assistant coaches.

He's full of himself. You know from your history of following this team one or two examples of players who acted like that and where it got them.

'Johnny Football' will be no better or worse than the amount of work he puts in to make himself better. Right now, he's coming off looking like a spoiled primadonna. How long would HCGM put up with a player yelling at him during a meeting? How long would HCGM tolerate him getting into a shouting match with his staff during practice? He apologized later, but it left me wondering who was in charge.

PS, my apologies for autocorrect on this IPad. I need to turn it off.........

I agree with every word you said.

The chatter among Aggies about Johnny Football is far more condemning than you have stated.

JF is an embarrassmentment to Texas A&M.

JF has become a national joke and punching bag.

The media and late night shows are having a field day with him.

I place the root cause squarely at the feet of his money lusting parents.

The young and dumb excuse has been worn pretty thin in my book.

No need to lock the thread, but we could move the "Johnny Football" talk to the Johnny Football thread in the NCAA forum.
