If Ron "I got this" Baker says Carter is his favorite player of the summer, I'm all in on Carter.
Baker just strikes me as a guy who is a no-nonsense, just get it done guy who doesn't know the meaning of the word "excuse". I think Baker and VanVleet are going to emerge as team leaders before they are seniors.
Marshall says Carter is more D1-ready than any JuCo he's ever had. That's encouraging, but a coach has a bit of an obligation to say things like that. Baker doesn't, so his endorsement says a lot about Carter. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I'm like you. I'm all in on Carter. The guy apparently looked good enough at the Juco level to effectively get a really nice, tough kid who was certainly going to be a good player and who was about to be an upper classmen get squeezed off the roster. I wonder which came first, Jake asking to transfer, or Coach finding Darius Carter.

Either way, that just shows that Carter isn't like Cle. He won't have to improve as much to be ready. Obviously more improvement will be great, however :D

I don't know if this has been brought up on here before, but I was wondering how Darius Carter's season thus far has stacked up to Carl Hall's junior season. The numbers are actually really interesting.
Hall wins pretty much across the board as far as raw stats go:
Player GP MIN PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% Darius Carter 24 18.3 8 4.4 0.3 0.4 0.7 0.5 0.515 0.62 Carl Hall 33 22.3 8.4 5 0.7 0.5 0.8 0.8 0.572 0.646
But that doesn't take into account Hall averaging four more minutes per game. When you factor that in and calculate per-minute stats, Carter is actually out-performing Hall in his junior season in most categories:
Player GP MIN PPM RPM APM SPM BPM TPM FG% FT% Darius Carter 24 18.3 0.437158 0.240437 0.016393 0.021858 0.038251 0.027322 0.515 0.62 Carl Hall 33 22.3 0.376682 0.224215 0.03139 0.022422 0.035874 0.035874 0.572 0.646
Hall still has the higher shooting percentages, but Carter is scoring more often, rebounding more, blocking more, and turning it over less.
I'm really surprised to see Carter being more efficient on the boards than Hall was as a junior. That was one category where I assumed Hall's superior physicality would shine through.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

He still has a long way to go to match Hall's physical strength in the paint, but it seems like he's improving a lot. Having better rebound/block-per-minute numbers than Hall is just impressive considering their different styles. Not sure if Hall playing the 4 with Stutz at the 5 is part of that ... but it seems like Carter gets similar minutes at the 4 with Lufile/Coleby at the 5.
I just remember thinking going into the season that if Carter could play the sixth man anywhere near the way that Hall had in his junior year, we'd be in pretty great shape. And he's done just that.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

Like I have reminded many fellow shocker fans, Hall made a significant improvement from his junior year to his senior year. Coach has done an excellent job of developing JC guys in a very short amount of time. Look at the improvement of Joe Ragland from junior to senior year. Heck look at Lufile, last year the guy could hardly get on the floor, now he has turned into a pretty solid big man. I'm hoping/expecting to see a substantial improvement from DC next year. Now that's a scary thought considering our backcourt guys will be 1 more year experienced, and that's not even counting all the newcomers.
