All 8 were offered basketball scholarships upon graduation. One was a walk-on at KU and got a F4 ring playing with future NBAers Collison, Gooden, and Heinrich. Two more were AAs at lower levels.

Todd Kapplemann. Sims brothers weren't quite that tall. And of course Reggie Smithson played his senior year at Augusta.

It was the Kapplemann brothers. One was 6-5 and the other 6-9. The eldest Sims was the 6-5 PG on the that team, but his younger brothers were still in middle school at that time. Lucas Sims went on to be an AA at ESU. Chris Grill was a senior my freshman year and also played one year at WSU.

Ok. I grew up going to school in Augusta before transferring to Douglass. Only famous person to come out of there was Monte Beisel. Dude has legendary status in Douglass. That and one of my friends is one of the top weight lifters in the nation.

Got to play against Chris quite a bit when he was at Butler, and again after he came to WSU after Marist. Ferocious competitor. Not the best basketball player but had incredible heart. Probably why he was such a good football player too.

I remember taking a trip to Douglas in 96 to watch DeAngelo Evans play against Monte Beisel at Douglas HS. Five of us road down in a 1988 Camaro IRoc. Evans was the star of the show, but Beisel won out in the end.

All I have to say is...
his Little brother Shomari is a complete stud. The family is uber athletic. Military family.
Shomari himself is one of the top track athletes in the nation let alone the state. Plays every sport.

Cant say enough about the family

A recent assessment on this prospect:

@NextUpRecruits: 2016 Andover Central G Darraja Parnell (@Darrogerthat) is a gamer who isn't afraid to drive inside. Can change speeds + nice rotation on J!

In our quest to recruit solid Local and State players, this is a player that I am very vigilant on. These are impressive numbers.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I agree FSF, it's nice to have D1 caliber local players.

I've only seen Darraja play a few times, so I'm sure others on here could provide a better analysis of his game than I can. The kid is a Division-1 talent, there's no question about that. His offensive game, which is mostly slashing to the bucket, is his best asset. I'm not sure if he fits the definition of point guard or shooting guard.. His defense is pretty lackadaisical. His attitude is decent, but I'm not sure it's up to HCGM standards.

It will be interesting to see where Darraja ends up.

Agreed!!! Local and In-State players bring a following and can really help our team. I think Of Ron Baker, Jamie Thompson, Dave Leach, Ron Mendell, Evan Wessel, Karl Papke, and Kelly Pete right off the bat through the years and there are more. Now we have added Conner Frankamp to our squad. What we don't dig on is a Johnnie Murdock not being seriously considered many moons ago, only to end up at a Valley School giving us fits for 4 Seasons.
