He (Oshon) made reference to Scottie Pippen being a walkon in college. No offer from WSU, but maybe he doesn't get recruited and is an academic walkon that plays?

IIRC Oshon is the 6th ranked player in South Carolina. He will probably have a few offers to pick from before it's over.

I'll correct myself on a couple of points. Oshon lives in North Carolina. The following source has him ranked as the #10 underclassman in the States of North and South Carolina.

Technically, any prospect who receives mail from a college is a "recruit". Some of those may actually have personal contact (phone or face-ro-face) with representatives of the college.

Recruits can be recruited and then offered to walk on,preferred or otherwise. Only those recruits who are offered AND ACCEPT a scholarship are not eligible to be walk-ons.

If you were recruited by WSU and walk on to the team, you aren't able to be on an academic without counting towards the 13 anyway. I read that recently somewhere and it stuck.

So you can pay your own way but not receive a full academic without counting against the limit.
