I will second that opinion about the level of talent we have. Does anyone think we will use a two line substitution again this year. We may be deep enough to go 5+5+5

Dunno about this year ... we look really strong. NCAA tourney strong. But the future looks really, really bright over the next few years. Amazingly bright.
Coming up next: Best team in the state!

VanVleet, Armstead, Baker and Early all suit up next year (who did I forget?). Wow.. WSU should be a real Valley title contender for the next few years.. and that's not chopped liver, because the Valley is a good basketball conference (that WSU fans, myself included, sometimes take for granted).

We are deep enough to sub 5 and 5, but I believe we will have a 9 man rotation that looks like this:
PG: Ragland, Williams
SG: Kyles
SF: Murry, Smith
PF: Hall, Anacreon/White
C: Stutz, EO
Williams, Murry, and Smith can all slide over and play the 2 guard making another sub obsolete unless one of Cotton, Wessel, or Ede are just too darn good to ride the pine.
If Mitchell is eligible to play this year, he gets the back-up SG spot.
I believe either White or Anacreon will be the forth big with the other getting spot minutes similar to EO last year. Depending on foul issues (Stutz and EO have had problems and it can be difficult for new bigs to stay out of trouble in the MVC) a five man rotation at the 4/5 might be necessary.

Who may red-shirt is getting real interesting. When looking at Cotton, Wessel, and Ede, one would need to take into account Mitchell, Early, Armstead, and Green for next year. None of this year's 3 will probably see much time except for mop up or an injury. Smith at the 3, Murry at the 2 and 3, Kyles at the 2 (could play 3), Williams at the 1 and 2, and Ragland at the 1. That's 5 solid players covering 3 positions and dividing up 120 minutes, or 24 minutes a piece. Except for Green, next year's additions (plus Williams) are older, experienced players and add VanVleet.
Even though Ede may be the most ready of the 3 at this time, my guess is play Wessel this year as he is the most versatile being able to cover 1-3. Red-shirt Cotton and Ede and next year, red-shirt Green.
Downtown, I have had some of the same feelings, but haven't been able to come up with good reasons as to why that's a bad thing eventhough it seems like there should be.

That was kind of my thinking too. Cotton is likely the most D-I ready PG and Ede the most D-I ready SF, but Wessel is a versatile hard-nosed competitor that might be the best asset in case of injury.
On the other hand, HCGM likes three PGs, so maybe Cotton is the guy...or maybe Anacreon or White aren't quite ready so you use Ede since he can play some PF as well.
Basketball is right around the corner and watching the proven players gel with the new players should be exciting!
