  • Here is my thoughts on next year....

After making the dance, next years group will be young. Like REALLY young. But they will also have high expectations of themselves. And they will have leaders to set the bar high. Guys like Demetric, Ehimen, Armstead, and Hall. Guys like Baker, White, Wessel, and Mitchell will push the newcomers while raising their own bar.

The newcomers will have to adapt quickly, otherwise they may get left behind. I think Early will be the biggest early season contributor, with VanVleet spending time learning and supporting Williams and Cotton. That will be good, as we won't have to throw him to the wolves. He will be the starter his Soph year, and will probably be the leader of this team.

    • I knew I was missing someone but got rushed at work. My apologies to DWill.

And I agree with you guys.

We are losing the only three guys on the team that other teams worry about leaving open.

I think Cotton will make teams pay. DWill is fine when open and set. We need a player or two that can rip the other teams heart out with a big three when they may not be wide open or completely set. Is that Baker? Green? I don't know. But someone is going to have to be that guy.

I'm going to go fix the above post to add DWill now.

        • I've been meaning to try to get to one of his games, but haven't had a chance yet this year. I'm going to make an effort to get out there next Friday, 1/27, they play Tomball, which probably won't put up much of a fight, but at least we can get some first hand knocwledge of some of Derail's skillset.

          • I see Derail playing the 3 spot mostly, and like it has been said we will need shooters after this year. I don't know about Armstead's shooting, but Cotton can shoot alright, he just doesn't do it very often. We might be more of a dribble drive team next year.
With the points that FVV is putting up this season, he must be a pretty good shooter.
And I think we will continue to be deep in our rotation because we will just have too much talent for some guys to be riding the pine every game.

            • Armstead shoots the 3ball ok. I do remember reading that he was working on it this off season. He shot around 32% while at Oregon. But he averaged less than 1 make per game while there. Averaged a little over 2 attempts a game.

              • How about this line up of the future:

                PG -- VanVleet
                SG -- Cotton
                SF -- Green
                PF -- Hawkins
                C -- Uwadiae

With the ability the other 4 have, would we need much offense from Uwadiae?

Who dat? Never heard of the guy. No one from the Valley should worry about a guy that isn't playing this year.

You could also have a variant of that to run a big lineup with:

                      PG - - VanVleet
                      SG - - Green
                      SF - - Early
                      PF - - Hawkins
                      C - - Uwadiae

                      or

                      PG - - VanVleet
                      SG - - Early
                      SF - - Hawkins
                      PF - - Watson
                      C - - Uwadiae

                      • Baker will be a major factor. Bet on it.

                        • This is what I see if one player is assigned to only one position; Anywhere from 1 to 3 red-shirts.

                          PG - Armstead /Cotton (2)/ FVV
                          SG - DWill/ Baker(3)/ Mitchell
                          SF - Early (4)/ Wessel/ Green
                          PF - White/ Hawkins/ Anacreon (5)
                          C - Hall/ EO/ Henry

Numbers in parenthesis are players that could drop down and play one position bigger. There are so many variables, there's no telling how it will all shake out. It is fun to think about though. Many thought there was no way Ben would see time at the 4, but he is.

Yeah but I cringe when he's in there at the 4 a lot of the time. He has such a hard time matching up height-wise with some PF's. Would much rather see him at the 3.

                              C - Hall - Orupke - Henry red shirt

SF - Hawkins - Wessell - Green (red shirt) - Vandrous

                              PF - Early - White - Anacreon

PG - Armstead - Cotton - Van Vleet redshirt

                              SG - Williams - Mitchell - Baker

Good line-up, but Baker and White will have something to say about that.
