Did you see one time where he posted another player up to receive a pass from another player? Maybe he'll be a starter next year. I don't see it yet. I see at least 3 shooting guards in front of him and at least 2 small forwards. I'm not sure how good his defense is. You may be able to tell this from the video but I can't. However, he is a skilled player who will be a very good player for WSU in a couple of years.
I agree with @Ta town: that Derail may RS, however, depending on Hawkins status, that could change.
The key to this discussion was around the "few minutes of video of just shooting 3s" and " having to do more than playing horse from 3", then correcting the 12 ppg statement. I felt there was a fair amount of video to watch and I saw a lot more than just standing on the outside shooting 3s. The 3-4 minutes of video shooting 3s was incorrect and the scond comment was very unfair as I believe Derail showed a lot of different skills. He is indeed a freshman and will have a lot to learn, particularly on D (as do most HS players). Never said he'd be a starter next year and I've said at other times, as here, he may very well RS.
Furthermore, those videos were from Derail's junior season, so he is a year more developed than what those videos showed (and given that he was all-state his senior year, he certainly showed development).

I was going to watch the vids but can't. Apparently you need Microsoft Silverlight or something and we don't have that at work. Are there any on YouTube? May be time to see if I can find some.
It's obvious that he has some very nice skills but I just not sure that he's quite ready for immediate Div. I play without some developement. He doesn't look aggressive and he stays out on the perimeter much more than he should with his size and skills. Physical players may give him some problems right now. He could have been dominant if he played more inside. He shot a lot of 3's (more than 2 pt. shots), and while his percentage at 3 is great, he should have been able to score more with post up skills. By the way, Hawkins isn't a ready made Div. I player either. I think that he may play earlier if he arrives only because we are so deep on the perimeter with good players and we aren't as deep inside. Just my opinion.
He's very likely to be SF at WSU. Most of the complaints about his game in the quoted post are things that are considered beneficial for a SF. He won't run into many "physical" players at SF, other than in practice.
Green was the Region MVP out of Houston. I don't see how those of us who've only seen a few video clips can make better judgements than those who probably watched him play every game. If you're trying to point out that Green is the best player in the Houston region and a Texas all-state player and he has a higher ceiling than that, then I'll agree with your post, although that wasn't the tone I read in the wording.
If a player can hit 40% from 3 and 50% from 2, do you want that player taking more 2's? That player scores 1.0 points per shot from 2 and 1.2 points per shot from 3. 40% from 3 and 60% from 2 result in the same points per shot. Very few players can hit 60% from 2. In addition, 3's are often game-changers. They give your team a boost and somewhat demoralize the opponent.
My thought on 3's is "if you can make it, TAKE IT!"
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I was just saying why he isn't ready to play for a couple of years. If you think that he will play immediately, that's fine.
Green is definately a SF/Point Forward right now (despite the height) but I think HCGM sees him as a combo that can take some of these smallish MVC PFs to town! He might be similar to Wilkins at Ill St. I think Green handles the ball better and plays inside better than Wilkins, but isn't as tall or as good of a shooter.
Would be nice to see him against
McDermitt of Creighton...same type of player--good inside/outside game.
Good to know. Hopefully that means he comes up this weekend. Out of our incoming FR recruits, I have to admit that Green intrigues me more than any other.
