  • Marshall does a good job putting our recruiting classes together. If he's willing to take a flyer on an athletic 7 footer every 3 or 4 years I'm fine with that.

    • Look, I'm at the front of the line when it comes to 3G being our coach. I don't want him going anywhere, but I crack up at posters who use the "I trust Marshall" line. I like what he does overall, and yes he has put together an excellent looking recruiting class for next year...minus Henry in my opinion.

He does make mistakes however and I don't expect him to be perfect. We trusted him on Reggie Chamberlain...fail. We trusted him on Kenny Manigault...fail. We trusted him on Jerome Hamilton...fail. Tyler Richardson...fail. Ede Egharvba...fail. EO might not be a fail, but be honest people, the expectation was way above what the results have produced.

For those of you chomping at the bit to address the positive recruits, let me list them; Clevin Hannah, Ramone Clemente, Toure Murry, David Kyles (it pains me to list him), Gabe Blair, Demetrick Williams, Rags, Ben Smith, Carl Hall and Tekele Cotton. Haven't seen enough on Evan or Jake yet, but feel good about them.

Edit: I also believe James Anacreon will turn out to be a fail.

What about Garrett, Aaron Ellis, Mantas Griskenas and AJ Hawkins. Mantas had knee problems and AJ left for family reasons. Are they pass or fail.

When you turn 50 that memory thing, or lack there of, kicks in on occasion. Those recruits pass the basketball eye test.

Let's see who I will think knows more, Marshall, Jans, Heier, Ford who saw HU play, had him at their camp, visited with HU, saw film on him, have a personal relationship with HU's coach, and have many years of experience as Div. I coaches and College Recruiting???

or SHOXMVC who saw a box score, and watches basketball for fun? Either one could be right and either could be wrong.

Ha Ha Difficult Choice. but I think I know.

Sorry SHOXMVC. I may have been hasty. YOu may have seen 2-3 box scores. Much better information.

                    • Just my opinion but I don't think that you can qualify Reggie, Kenny, Tyler, etc. as fails? Most teams only have an 8 or 9 player rotation. A third of the team likely isn't going to see any time at all. Does that mean they weren't good recruits, not really, but it likely means that they weren't the best at that position. So essentially what's being said is, if you don't start your a failure?

I probably should have ignored this mess but many of our bench players would probably start for other D-1 teams. And whose to say that those teams wouldn't be successful in their respective conferences? Just a thought.

                      • Aaron ellis took a ton of critism his first three years. While never a star, he was a really solid defender, rebounder and occassional scorer by the time he was a senior. His first three years, the only positive ever mentioned was he set good picks. We need guys like this on the team. They make everyone better, have a role and, if they stick around, actually can become productive players for us. Judging someone who has not even put the uniform on yet is a little hasty. Not every player is going to play right away. give the kid a chance.

                          +1 on all points.

He sure had a LOTto say in obtaining the NIT CHAMPIONSHIP trophy!

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Reggie was not a fail. When we signed him we were in major rebuilding mode and he was considered a good recruit. As things picked up, his prospects for major PT diminished. He is at UMKC now, where he is doing extremely well and has been a major contributor. Granted UMKC is "not at this level". But he was not a FAIL. We simply found some more athletic players.

For the record Reggie is UMKC's leading scorer at 17.2 ppg, and is shooting 42.5% from 3pt range this year.

                              • They're both from Africa, they're both tall and they both have limited basketball experience. Other than that, all other comparisons are being pulled from somewhere south of the brain.
