Why does the NBA draft guys with height that only average one point or 5 points in the last draft.
No valley titles and no ncaa appearances. i think he recruits fine but these might be objectives some people judge on. I am alright with taking a chance on a guy every few years. not sure Uwadiae is taking a chance dont know enough about him. but chances are ok every once in awhile

By your definitions or examples (4 and 5 star recruits and top 100's), 98% or so of our recruits will be sleepers. Everyone you mentioned was in these categories. Howard was a top 200.

Big Men (6'10" and up) are very hard to come by for schools in the so-called mid-major tier of College Basketball. The fact that we have two 7 footers suiting up next year with a 6'11" player in the wings is not insignificant - project or not. The program is on a consistent upward trajectory against some mighty stiff headwinds where NCAA tournament appearances are concerned. And let's face it MoValley titles have been few and far between for WSU for the last 20-25 years, and even before the MTXE era. The best indicator that HCGM knows what he is doing other than the W-L record trend is that he recruits ATHLETES!!

I like our chances with the players we have and that are coming in. :good:

I was just wondering with our new assistant coaches, who will be coaching the big men?

Jans has traditionally worked with the wings. So just venturing a guess but Dana Ford working with ball-handlers and Greg Heiar working with the bigs makes sense.

Honestly, getting Perry Ellis is going to be more miraculous than just a Home Run. It would be like bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, man on first, down 1 run, and your pitcher is hitting, and then he hits the home run. With the recent interview with Ellis where he said he admires Kentucky's ability to have one year players and go to the NBA, and that is his dream, I really doubt that A) He will be interested in coming to WSU for a year. and B) that Coach would even want a one and done during the 2012-13 season, considering by all definitions that season is going to be a rebuilding year with us replacing 4 starters.

I've kind of given up on hoping to get Perry. I just don't think its going to happen, and the more I read about his recruitment, the more that I think he keeps WSU on his list just because its the hometown team, and he has no real interest in coming here. All for show.

I'd be thrilled if he did sign with us, but only if he plays a minimum of 2 years, and hopefully 3, preferably all 4.

Perry always speaks very well of who he's talking to. There are no guarantees that Perry will be one and done. It all depends on what happens over the season. He's smart enough to stay longer if he's not guaranteed to be a high or first round draft pick. You're crazy if you don't think 3G would take this type of talent even if it were only for one year. Anything that can help raise the profile of the program is going to be done as it can open more doors to recruits.

There are probably some more, but that's going back over 40 years. It also goes back to a time when recruiting was much different than it is now.
Technically, Terry and Cliff don't belong on the list since they were 6'8" (or at least that's what they were listed at).

I don't know for sure how good Gene Wiley was during his first two years but he is tied with Warren (Armstrong) Jabali for the most triple-doubles in school history.

The value in recruiting a Perry Ellis, for a school like WSU, is not in the number of years he plays, but simply in the perception of being able to succesfully recruit a player of that status.

Furthermore, a guy like Perry could turn what might otherwise be a building year into something more successful than that (even if it were his only year here).

height isnt everything. i would rather have a 6'8" or 6'9" that is physical than soft 7 footers.

I'm confused. I didn't think you had to recruit practices.

Doesn't the NCAA allow you to create your own.

Gene Wiley hadn't played much basketball before his senior year at East High. He was a foul machine his first year. Ralph Miller made him keep his hands above his head when rebounding Free Throws. He surely learned and turned into a very very good center.

A physician called into a radio show and said:

                              • It would just be nice to run across a big man that wasn't so much of a project, and could produce by the time he was a sophmore, like Cole Aldrich did.

The verdict is still out on Orukpe, but I have the feeling that this coming season will give us indication if all the fuss we made about him was worth it or not. If Orukpe can just be a major shot blocker, that will help a great deal.

I think Stutz will have his best year coming up. He can score when he gets the ball inside. I look for his improvement to be much like Miller's improvement between his junior to senior year.

Uwadiae sounds much like a project as Orukpe is, and I just hope that he is a fast learner.
