  • Richard Amardi - Class of 2011 - JUCO from canada...

Coach Heiar just added him as friends on FB.

He's a 6'8 forward out of Canada. Currently a JUCO. Undeclared based on ESPN, but they're far from reliable on the juco front.

Weatherford's roster shows him as a freshman last year. Unclear to me to me about the 10-11 season. Perhaps a redshirt freshman who graduated with 3 years to play?

I hope that would be the case, I like us having a sophomore big man. ESPN's evaluation of him in 2009 -

Armardi is another very long and athletic forward. He runs the floor like a deer and can finish above the rim or with a high arcing lay up over multiple defenders. Armardi is an excellent defender as well. He plays with great energy and effort as he blocks and contest shots in and out of his area. Armardi is raw skills wise but makes up for it with his attacking style of play. In addition to transition Armardi scores from drop off passes created from guard penetration and offensive rebound put backs. He is extremely quick to the ball and uses his great length to gain possession of the ball. Armardi must add strength and work to improve his overall ball skills to take his game to the next level, but his constant activity on the floor makes him very productive on a consistent basis.
Sounds like an Aaron Ellis type guy - high energy, can finish above the rim, great defense. Hopefully he can develop that step out game to improve his offense, also.

I found stats for 12 of his games this year. 13.4ppg, 9.7rpg, 55% from the field, 25% from 3, 56% on free throws, 1.08 blocks a game, 2.75 turnovers a game.

If he'd have 3 years left I'm OK with it. Sounds a bit raw and could use some time to develop but wouldn't be horrible useage of the last 'ship.

Info on him is extremely sketchy. He graduated HS in '09, but was a freshman this past season. No mention of a redshirt anywhere. He very well could have, but out of HS he was being recruited by Georgetown, Oklahoma, and Ok State. Sounds weird for that high of a recruit to redshirt in JC.

It looks like the coach from his prep school or high school talking about his season, and how he had to kick Amardi off the team. Is this the same guy? Would explain why he had all these teams interested, and then he goes to a JUCO.

Not really weird if he wanted to play 3 years of D-1 (like EO). He has not signed a NJCAA letter of intent for next year.

BTW, I've been looking for a juco player who has three years to play who perhaps is very interested in being a Shocker.

That was in 2007. He was a senior in high school in 2009 when he had those schools looking at him.

And he's 6'8''. Wasn't that the magic height we were looking for, when coach made that comment about news on a player thats 6'8''?

6-8 was the height Ron Baker said we were holding a scholarship for. I don't believe Marshall has commented on the situation.

ahhhhhh. Well Amardi fits the bill, and he looks like a solid guy that slipped through the cracks for what ever reason. I just wonder why those schools, or other bigger schools haven't been after him since he went JUCO?
