    Yes, EO is back.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Why again is there so much interest in a guy who only averaged 3 & 3 last year?

He had an injury that limited his minutes and productivity last season. The previous season he averaged 6.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

Last year Gabe averaged 6.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, so he fills roughly the same hole.

Basically, he is a good rebounder who is capable of playing defense on the perimeter (which is important in the Valley with all the perimeter oriented 4s we see) and is a very good passer for a big man. He is the kind of guy that does a lot of little things to make a team better, which is why he is attracting interest from good teams who want a glue player.

He is also know as an outstanding glue guy. He would be a very solid player for us and give us D-1 experience on mostly untested frontline

For anyone that feels our front line will be too inexperienced and not deep enought this year to compete, this is your guy! He comes in with 3 years of D-I experience in a BCS conference and can play immediately. He is athletically talented and skilled. He won't likely be the team MVP, but he can do it all and does fill a gap.

I've been against adding an additional big man this summer for the following reasons:

There wasn't anyone available that would be skilled enough to make an immediate impact.

You can't get a guy with D-I experience that doesn't have to sit out for 1 year.

Andre miracullously passes both of those criteria. He's a perfect fit for the 11-12 Shocker team.

              Brazil

Trop, I've never been to Rio (or anywhere else in Brazil), so I don't know their seasonal weather -- but it is winter there right now.

July in Rio has average highs of 78 and lows of 65. Sao Paulo has average highs of 71-72 and lows of 53.

And... If you can't have DeWitt, Walker is a nice replacement, especially considering how late it is in the recruiting game. 8)

                    Okay

Thanks, Hatter; I hadn't bothered to look it up -- that's serviceable beach weather.

                    • The trip to Brazil could be an incentive that other schools can't offer.

Walker could easily be the starter early in the season while Hall adjusts to the D1 game. There's a decent fit for him at WSU.

Where does the schollie come from? Coaches need to win games to maintain their salaries. That ends up producing some results that may appear brutal to fans, but winning is the name of the game in D1 ball.

I can come up with a name that doesn't appear vital to WSU winning games in the next couple of years. Bringing in a Sr PG for '12-'13 might be a clue.

There could be a late non-renewal of a scholarship. Fans would hate it, but winning is the name of the game. If the coaching staff decides that a new signee is more likely to contribute to a winning season, a current player might get cut out. Other schools are doing it, so don't be surprised to see this at WSU.

                      • The only further information I received on Andre being here was that he was "pretty good". And the guy telling me this tends to say that about every player, except I carefully watch the tone of his voice. His tone didn't sound blown away, but also I've noticed his tone to indicate that someone was just 'ok'.
The way he said Andre was "pretty good" simply told me that he was decent. probably made a few really good plays during pick up but not alot of spectacular plays, which i think we all kind of assume at this point.
And his judgement comes from just a few measly pickup games.

So take ^that information for what it's worth = almost nothing.

                          • Walker is at Marquette now, or at least he was last night. Hopefully this is his last visit and a decision will soon be made. I will be somewhat surprised if he goes to Xavier. I think it's between Marquette and the Shox.

                            • Last night Marquette had a big BBQ mixer for the basketball team and their fans. I just watched a clip of it on the home page of their athletic site.

So I guess it's BBQ versus Brazil.

He got to go to the BBQ already. Now it's time to pack the bags for Rio.
