  • FVV looks like the kind of guy that's tough to guard because of his tempo changes and stop-and-go style. If the defender isn't lulled into a mistake, they will wear down guarding that type of player.

Ede has been described as a stop-and-go, tempo-changing ball handler from summer practices. That combination seems like it will give WSU two guys who can break down a D. White appears to be a player the D can't let loose if they need to cover breakdowns in their D.

With all the other offensive threats, a post player like Uwadiae might not need to have a shooting range past 2'.

In the shorter term, '12-'13 could go:

    Van Vleet
    Williams
    Ede
    Hall/White
    Orukpe

That's 3 perimeter players that can break down a D and finish at the hoop. At least 2 perimeter players who can make you pay if you back off to stop their drives. A PF who demands coverage at all times, and a post player who will stuff if you let him get the ball within 5' of the bucket.

In what should have been a rebuilding year, the reloading is going very nicely.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

        +1

Fortunately, we will have two very good PG options in addition to Cotton, Wessel, and Baker at the guard/wing positions. Any one of them could step up in a big way.

Quite likely true, Trop. But with Van Vleet on board, WSU should be able to count on 40 minutes of quality time from the PG spot, even apart from Williams -- a nice spot to be in.

"With all the other offensive threats, a post player like Uwadiae might not need to have a shooting range past 2'."

And Aargh, as to your point, with Hall still around (and depending on what else happens at PF between now and then), it would come as no great surprise for Uwadiae to redshirt his first year. But even if Henry does have to play, I also remember a guy named Levingston whose range was about 2' when he first arrived. Cliff was a tough, active player with a superior nose for the ball (and of course the skills developed in years of practice against American competition) -- but he couldn't shoot a lick as a freshman.

I recall leaving many games where I pondered how Cliff and Antoine could miss so many chippies their Frosh year. Surprisingly, that was Cliff's best shooting percentage year (.546, .544, .519). AC actually improved (.501, .586, .566, .575).

            • Dont assume, WSUwatcher. That makes an ass of you. Get the sand out of your vagina. This kid just BLEW UP against the best players in the country, like the ultimate diamond in the rough. We'll see if we hear anything about other coaches talking to him. That is hardly out of the realm of possibility.. happens ALL THE TIME, every year, somewhere, at every level. It's a reality of D-1 athletics. Like when Self tried to talk to Orupke after he oralled to WSU. And then there's Calipari, taking players away from schools like Washington (Terrence Jones, just last year) after they had already verballed.

Actually, another, the expression is that to assume "makes an ass out of you and me" both.

Meanwhile, thanks for answering my question: What's the first hand experience in big-time D-1 college basketball on which your learned commentary is based? Obviously, the answer is zero.

As I said, spare us. Or maybe we'll get lucky and the sky really will fall, right on your head. I'll be ignoring you hereafter.

This is like when a baseball commentator says "and he hits one past the right fielder and is in at second with a double." Of course he's at second if he hits a double. There is no ironic way to wear a Shocker shirt, only prideful. :goshocks:

Or, perhaps, "he could be safe at third with a double and error." So maybe he wore his Shocker Shirt out of convenience as it was the only one clean and available.
