If the kid is adamant about not playing at Southern Miss, why is it so bothersome he follows a coach he trusts?
I don't believe we have word yet that they released DeWitt. I'll have no problem taking him when or if they do.
Sorry I misread an article. Still, if they release him, then what does it matter where he goes?
Really it is all about the morals of it. Some think it is wrong because a school and its staff has put their recruiting dollars and time towards this player and then they lose an assistant coach and that player follows him. Basically, WSU is getting a player on SMU's dime.

While I would love to have him on the team for next year, it still is not right to do it. But, that is not my decision nor anyone else's on this board. It's up to Greg and Gregg if they would want to bring this kid along if indeed he does get released from his LOI.
So should Southern Mississipi have refused to recruit Gary Flowers of Dewitt because Haier developed a relationship with them on Chipola's dime only to have their coach taken from them because of those recruiting relationships?

Ohhhhhh ... morals. No wonder I am drawing blanks.

Also, off topic, but would anybody like to swap wives for the weekend so I can have a new chick to show off to my buddies while on my gambling vacation in China where I will be checking in on my lead-based paint factory operated by embarassingly cheap child labor?

Edit: I was busy chewing on my paint chips when I typed iron instead of lead. Thanks pogo!

If we follow the logic that players can't follow assistants, would that apply to the recruit that signed with Clemson after Grant left? Would that also apply to the 4 Georgia players that Dollar was recruiting for WSU for 2012?
Would that also apply to any recruit that Spenelli got in November after he left WSU?

This morality stuff could get really sticky.

And if you say that it only applies to players that had signed a letter of intent, it is even an iffier standard because a school can always choose to make the recruit honor their LOI for at least one season.

                      • Theoretically for every assistant leaving, there is one coming in. So what goes around should, in theory, come around. While it won't always be true it's near enough a zero sum game that I don't see what the worry is.

Recruits following coaches just doesn't seem that bothersome to me. Rostered players following coaches is a completely different matter altogether, bu the NCAA has done a good job shutting that down.

If USM is worried about their dime they will not release him from his LOI. At this point he is a junior and if he has to stay with them for a year chances are he is going to make the best of it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with him signing with WSU if he is released from the LOI.

                            • Why should we feel guilty over a decision that he made???

And are there any stats on him? I haven't been able to find any!
I watched that entire Chipola/Northwest Florida game, and I wasn't
                              that impressed with him.

Snap, have you noticed that every time you make an evaluation of a player's ability it seems to fly in the face of what all the expert analysis is about that player?

At this point, you being unimpressed is about the biggest thumbs up for a player I can imagine.
