Have no idea whether Orris or Chatman will ever be worth two hoots, however, there has been some points brought up in other threads regarding WSU "winning" recruiting battles and the importance of a quality PG to a program, especially, signing quality freshman PGs.

CU is in the same position that we are in having our starting PG being a senior. However, while we have DWill in the wings and Cotton coming in, both may be more combo type guards with a 2 maybe being a stronger position. The Jays have now lined up 3 players to their roster that are primarily PGs first --- Manigat is the heir apparent to Young with Chatman behind him and, now, Orris another year back.

How much WSU actually wanted Chatman, we can only speculate, but CU got him, WSU did not. With Orris, you have a PG that had an offer from Illinois and was being considered by Butler and Minnesota. While I'm very pleased with the players we have coming in, at least on paper at the PG position, CU appears to really be getting the job done.

    Comments?
Manigat probably would be better at the 2. No tears shed here for Chatman going to CU. CU is now pretty desperate on finding a pg. The Shockers are way ahead in this position IMO.

No doubt, Trop! With the addition of FVV, even if CU had been able to keep Orris, I would have felt very good about the Shocks situation at PG. Also since I started this thread, we added Armstead for next year. I guess I'd have to say we came on strong down the stretch.

Some seem to be making a lot of this kid's decommitment from CU (and enjoying every minute of it).

VanVleet, as I understand it, has "orally" committed, but not signed. He still has the opportunity to decommit himself. What's that old adage -- "There but for the Grace of God go I." We could (and I'm not saying we will) find ourselves in much the same position if FVV does not sign.

I know you're just having fun at the expense of CU. But should the tables turn, don't be surprised if CU puts it back to you.

Due to the coaching change at Illinois, Michael Orris' recruitment is on again. Expect some Valley schools and K-State to be involved.

This is what I don't like about coaching changes. A coach and his staff spend one university's recruiting dollars to get a kid to commit, then a coaching change takes place, then the kid follows the coach to his new school and the university that paid out the bucks for the recruiting expense is left holding the bag. I really think there should be some rule (or at least a moral issue) that a coach cannot accept a commitment like this.

In this case I don't feel sorry for Illinois, they fired him. I do agree when a coach moves on to a "bigger better" job it is wrong.

I personally think it is wrong period, but I do acknowledge that there is a difference whether a coach just moves on or is encouraged to move on by the university. It was still Illinois' money that was spent. I suppose it could be argued that since Weber was fired, Illinois knew the risk it was taking that some of his recruits would follow him. It still just seems tainted somehow. It will be interesting to see if any of Ill State's recruits follow Jank.

Who says that Groce wanted him, or that an Ohio recruit wouldn't follow him?
It all works out in the scheme of things.

Apparently some on this board don't hold that opinion (or have a very short memory) because if I recall correctly a great deal was made of Turgeon's acceptance at A&M of one of his WSU recruits that decommited after Mark left. I do remember many, many negative posts about that and the really bad thoughts sent Mark's way.

I honestly don't remember. That was 6 years ago. I'm not talking about whether BY THE RULES he could have followed Turgeon (and you are smart enough to know that). Just because this is off season and a slow sports day does not mean I'm going to waste any more of my time on this subject. You know exactly what I'm talking about and I have better things to do on a Sunday afternoon than argue just for the sake of arguing.

I think @dregn: said it very well and will guess that is how others may feel as well. Illinois fired Weber, WSU did not fire MT. When Illinois fired Weber, they opened themselves up to players leaving and recruits wanting out of their commentment. So, when Orris de-committed, it wasn't Weber's doing, but Illinios themselves. Open season.

MT chose to leave WSU and he chose to allow Bowles to follow him. His doing, not WSU. Of course, I believe Bowles would not have come to WSU even if MT had stayed because he wanted to go to a "bigger" program. MT did, too, and let Bowles join him.
