Still don't know if this kid had signed or not, didn't think so. Bowles had, though. That's yet another big difference.

Shox21's memory of the reaction to Denzel Bowles being carted off to A&M is exactly right, but as others have noted, the key difference (at least if I remember the board complaint's correctly) was that Turgeon voluntarily left for what he saw as greener pastures -- in retrospect, thanks, Mark! -- thereby CREATING HIS OWN OPPORTUNITY to take Bowles with him, whereas Weber was shown the door at Illinois.
Personally, I'm in the camp of those who think that's a far more important consideration than whose money was used to recruit a given player. Shizzle also makes the good point that Groce might not have wanted Orris at Illnois anyway, or at least might have preferred someone he had been recruiting instead (the real key to his post, not whether things somehow "even out.") For all we know, Weber may have done Orris as much a favor by getting him out of Illinois as he did for himself by re-recruiting him to K-State.
But it really doesn't matter now anyway. I appreciate what MT did to revive WSU basketball and always will. But I'm very glad we have Marshall now instead, and I also believe that, ironically, Marshall is probably closer to a Final Four run right now than Turgeon is.Last edited by WSUwatcher; May 7, 2012, 12:00 AM.

I'll never let Turgeon slide for the Bowles thing. He really tarnished his reputation with that move.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
