  • He is a high priority. Espn rumors had a write up earlier this summer about how hard we tried to lock him up before the July evaluation period. From what Ive seen online WSU and Iowa are his top 2

    • From a HawkeyeInsider writer regarding Thurman:

"The '12 F from Wichita was pretty evasive on direct questioning and I don't have a good vibe about this one. Whether it be him pulling back from Iowa, the Hawkeyes cooling, academics or something else, there's more here than is being talked about publicly."

      • Being a little lazy on defense and the boards is pretty common for high school players.

          • "Heights senior forward Gavin Thurman is on hold with Wichita State, Falcons coach Joe Auer said.

The Shockers are still recruiting Thurman, according to Auer, but will wait until spring to offer a scholarship while they wait for Thurman to qualify academically under NCAA rules.

Auer said Thurman will visit Missouri State later this month and may schedule a visit to Nebraska."

Well, we did ask for a July commitment and he declined. I think that the coaching staff has done a stellar job in recruiting Gavin and I do hope in ends up at WSU. I could certainly see him being someone similar in talent to Taj Grey or Brandon Polk (both of whom went to JUCO prior to nice D-I careers).

              • It was reported nationally that we wanted a commitment before the July periods. I have my doubts if staff went after it or just showing him very strong interest. I'm sure the academic situation was known at that time.

                      • Hope he isn't a thorn in our sides for 4 years should he be elidgible.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

                          • SMS fans are claiming that he will be eligible. I think 3G moved on long ago.

Good Luck Gavin. Hopefully SMS will build some locker rooms while you are there.

I have no idea how Gavin is doing academically this school year. I was told before the start of the school year Gavin has a chance of qualifying, but it didn't at all sound good. I wish the best for Gavin and hope he qualifies as it would indicate he really put forth an effort. If not, I'm expect the Shocks will recruit him for 2014.

                              • I don't like to speculate but I will. More than liikely he just didn't want to come to WSU early in July. Don't know if WSU put him on hold first in September because of academics or if he kept putting them off first and they responded by putting him on hold.
