Can't do that. That is where the future school of dentistry will go. (We can hope) And aren't they putting a small building there to offer some classes in that area of study?
Regarding the future dental school. I was told that, in an effort to grow the college of health professions, the grant application for the dental school was amended to include a small 4 year medical school, and it was approved. So exactly what's going to happen I do not know.

Next, While the land that is currently the golf course was originally slated for campus expansion, I think there is to much support for keeping the golf course to get rid of it. I for one relish the days when the weather is nice and I can skip class for a quick 18 holes.

Thirdly, I have a fraternity brother who's on campus job at the time made him privy to the official long term plan for WSU. This included keeping the golf course and, over time, purchasing all land south of campus and expanding to 16th street. This was a few years back, so things may have changed significantly.
That rug really tied the room together.

Don't tease us rZ!!!! Can you get any additional information. Purchasing land should be a priority in my view. At the very least it gives the university control of what is around the U, which is always held against us.

If WSU is going to build a new football stadium don't do what KSU did and put it so far away from campus. Putting the stadium where the golf course is now is a great idea. It is close to campus and it would cost less than tearing down all the houses south of campus.

Anybody think of renovating Cessna? The last major renovation of athletic facilities (CKA) went pretty well, and the cost would be minimal compared to starting over.

IF expansion is on everyone's minds, lets also anex the areas north of 21st (even if it's only for parking--baseball and basketball fans would love it)

VBird, good suggestion, but I'm not for any more renovations of Cessna Stadium. I think the cold concrete look, high sides, track encircled field added to the lack of excitement for Shocker football. It always felt like a huge high school stadium to me.
I'd rather see a new stadium that is fan/family friendly that is enclosed on the ends with stands, concessions, etc - and with no track. Keep the fans right on top of the action.

Here are a couple of stadiums that hold right around 30,000.

IIRC, renovating cessna stadium would cost more than the stadium is worth. Would be cheaper to demolish and build from scratch.

Now thats how you have a discussion. Disagree without attacking the person, and offer suggestions and evidence.

Of course, I must point out that the BSU Stadium does have a track.

And I agree, the location where it is is fine, just start over, buy some land north of staium for additional parking, and create an atmosphere!! Only got to go to 1 football game (I was 7 when program dropped) and was a guest to games at KU, KSU, and PSU and all create sense of pride on campus.

Veritas - You did notice that Bronco Stadium in Idaho has a track encircled around it. They put up temp seating for football on the ends. It also appears to look much like Cessna. In a renovation, Cessna could have the south end enclosed, or partially like Boise St.'s.

Akron's stadium is something else. It only burns me that if Akron can have football and a stadium like that, why can't WSU. However, I did notice a real lack of parking around the stadium.

ShockTalk & Downtown Shocker Brown, you are both spot on. I didn't notice the track or temp seating at Boise State. I must have been blinded by the blue field. I'd certainly settle for the Akron stadium. It looks great!

This is an example of how a renovation could work:

                          Boone Pickens Stadium

I realize that Boone paid for the whole reno, and that kind of capital wouldn't ever be available. Not to mention, they expanded from approx 45000 to 60000+, and we're not talking about expansion.

I'm just saying that it's not completely necessary to trash what's in existence when the structure seems to be strong.

I don't think there's anyone out there that would question the decision to renovate CKA, knowing what the end-result became.

All-in-all, I wouldn't care if they bull-dozed Cessna if it meant Shocker Football was returning.

Eric Sexton needs to spend some time with the Akron AD.

Wichita deserves something like what Akron has built. Wichita will get behind something like this. WSU is Wichita only chance for big time sports.

                            Count me in!

A stadium like this would greatly benefit Wichita State and the city.

Well done Veritas. Akron U is a great example. Here are some others to consider: Tulsa, SMU and N Texas. Tulsa did a very nice renovation and SMU started from scratch. N Texas new stadium is still on the drawing board and fund raising stages. I have provided the links below. I wanted to show a renovation and new construction as options. Done properly, they both could turn out great.

I love Ford Stadium at SMU and I believe this should be the model IMO.

Maybe we take down the grand stands at Cessna and construct stands on one side for track and field. Then purchase land either West or South of campus and build a new stadium. The gold course could be an option, as suggested earlier.
