I tried to put together a few numbers to see where we stood in the race this year.
If anyone can help me with the following information I would be most appreciative. I cannot find how they determine tie breakers (point wise) and whether or not they count soccer, swimming & diving (I defy you to find team results anyway) or any other sport WSU does not compete in.
Obviously we are not in the running right now. 9.5 basketball average, 8 in golf, a dissappointing 6 in mens cc, it's been a tough year so far.
Even 1s in volleyball and women's cc aren't enough.
The spring is going to bring us into the mix, but it doesn't look too good for our chances. Even 1s in (mens) golf, baseball, T&F, tennis and high finishes in (womens) softball, women's T&F, tennis probably won't get us ahead of ISU.
There is still a chance but if I crunched the numbers correctly, we need five championships (tough but possible) and no worse than 3 in the other 3 events (even harder to accomplish) and then hope ISU has at least 3 bad finishes (7+).
It's hard to believe that basketball is probably the death nail for our streak.
On a side note, it's disgusting to me that we host only baseball for the conference tourneys. I remember 1 year recently when we did host several, but overall it seems like we are getting the shaft when it comes to distributing these events.
One last thing, Evansville is a joke in our conference. Whatever mensa member that decided they needed to join in the last 20 years should never be allowed to make an important decision again in their lifetime.
Probably a good school but they have no business in our conference.
