I tried to put together a few numbers to see where we stood in the race this year.

If anyone can help me with the following information I would be most appreciative. I cannot find how they determine tie breakers (point wise) and whether or not they count soccer, swimming & diving (I defy you to find team results anyway) or any other sport WSU does not compete in.

Obviously we are not in the running right now. 9.5 basketball average, 8 in golf, a dissappointing 6 in mens cc, it's been a tough year so far.

Even 1s in volleyball and women's cc aren't enough.

The spring is going to bring us into the mix, but it doesn't look too good for our chances. Even 1s in (mens) golf, baseball, T&F, tennis and high finishes in (womens) softball, women's T&F, tennis probably won't get us ahead of ISU.

There is still a chance but if I crunched the numbers correctly, we need five championships (tough but possible) and no worse than 3 in the other 3 events (even harder to accomplish) and then hope ISU has at least 3 bad finishes (7+).

It's hard to believe that basketball is probably the death nail for our streak.

On a side note, it's disgusting to me that we host only baseball for the conference tourneys. I remember 1 year recently when we did host several, but overall it seems like we are getting the shaft when it comes to distributing these events.

One last thing, Evansville is a joke in our conference. Whatever mensa member that decided they needed to join in the last 20 years should never be allowed to make an important decision again in their lifetime.

Probably a good school but they have no business in our conference.

Looking a little deeper, and after considering the final tennis standings, it looks to be improbable if not impossible for the Shocks to continue the All Sports domination.

If my figures are correct (and I doubt they are spot on) even championships in baseball, both T&F and mens golf won't overcome ISU. UNI is solidly ahead of us as well.

Some programs that are simply not competing across the board as they should are Bradley and MSU. I expect Evansville to be terrible as they never should have been in the league but BU should be better and MSU has no excuses. It just proves how terrible the leadership is at these schools.

I thought Evansville was looking at dropping to D2? Why don't they hurry up and do that so the MVC can add Butler or Memphis or somebody?

Someone was suggesting St. Louis, Oral Roberts, and Butler as schools to replace Evansville. Memphis wouldn't drop down to our conference IMO.

Memphis definitely wouldn't make the jump. They play D1 football, those other programs do not, they are a better fit for sure.

Ok, I've re-recrunched the numbers and I now think it's a 4 way battle royal between ISU, UNI, SIU and WSU.

I plugged in a couple of numbers and came up with a 3 way tie between WSU, ISU & UNI with SIU less than 8 one hundredths behind.

The softball team REALLY needs to sweep the final 6 conference games but the 3 against UNI are enormous. First to keep a chance for a top 4 finish possible and just as important, keep UNI at or near the cellar.

Track and Field will probably decide the trophy. I think we need no more than 4 points total and no better than 5ths (matching indoors) for the ISU teams.

In track ISU will probably be top 3 on both sides. :(

                74,

They finished behind us, SIU and UNI in both men's and women's. Do you really think they are going to jump over at least one in both? I'm not questioning, just picking your brain for good info.

Somebody here said that both the WSU teams were going to be stronger in outdoors so I am hoping to improve upon our indoor placements.

                Thanks!

I kinda feel like I'm talking just to hear my head rattle at this point but......

More number crunching. Almost impossible to see anyone but Illinois State winning the trophy. We are all but mathmatically eliminated.

We'll be close, maybe even 2nd, but the streak ends this year.

I still shudder at the 9.5 average in basketball that is going to cost us one for the thumb.

All I have to say is that if we're going to finish 2nd, I'm glad it's to the 'Birds.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
