If I am following this correctly (and that may not be the case) Hunter Veith just finished his 4 events in the Heptathlon with the lead and now he is participating in the open Pole Vault and the open Long Jump simultaneously. Stud.

To top that off Hunter has set new PR's in both PV and LJ although not sure where he will finish in those events. Hunter's PR in the LJ at 25-6.25 is a very good jump.

Also good to see that Jared Belardo is able to compete in the Long Jump today.

Final Results: Hunter wins the LJ and Jared finishes in 3rd to pocket 16 points.

So. Hayden Bugner 2nd in the PV at 16-7.5, Jr. Hunter Veith is 3rd with a PR of 16-3.5 and Sr. Tyler Knight is 5th at 15-11.75 as the Shocks pick up 18 points in the Pole Vault.

Fr. Garrett Kennedy just missed getting on the board as he tied 3 other vaulters for the 6th best jump but finished 9th on the basis of more misses.

Shocks qualify 3 into the 10-man finals of the mile run. Ugis Jocis, Zack Penrod and Nathan Wickoren.

Jacob James and A.J. Stephens qualify for the finals of the 60m hurdles.

Cody Scheck makes it into the 400m finals.

Mike Wells and Rhys Powell are through to the 60m dash finals. Fr. Denvoir Griffin missed the finals by .01 seconds.

Zack Penrod qualifies for the 800m finals.

Cody Scheck and Rhys Powell make it into the final 8 of the 200m run.

Shocks fail to score in the 5k with Joe Harter falling 0.08 seconds short of 8th place.

Shocks pick up 3 points with a 6th place finish in the DMR.

Shocks projected to finish at 130 points followed by SIU at 110. Not a whole lot of room for error there.

Hunter Veith wins the Heptathlon with 5,813 points which I believe breaks his own school record and maybe a new MVC record. Looks like Hunter's performance today may have included a big PR in the pole vault at 16-8.75.

So. Ben Johnson (5,304) 2nd, So. Kaden Griffin (5,059) was 4th, Sr. Tyler Knight (4,970) was 5th as the Shocker collected 27 points in the heptathlon.

Sr. John Nicholas fell 15 points short of securing the point for 8th place.

Sr. Ugis Jocis falls one-quarter of one second short of winning the mile with a time of 4:12.97. Sophomore teammates Nathan Wickoren and Zack Penrod finish 5th and 6th. 15 points is a good haul.

So. A.J. Stephens picked up 4 points for his 5th place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.15 seconds. Jr. Jacob James was disqualified.

Sr. Cody Scheck added 5 points to the kitty with a 4th place finish in the 400m dash in a time of 48.79 seconds.

So. Mike Wells and Sr. Rhys Powell run 6.86 seconds and 6.88 seconds, respectively, in the 60m dash to rake in 3rd and 4th place points. UNI's Brandon Carnes ran a blistering 6.60 to win this race barely edging out Illinois State Fr. Derrius Rodgers who clipped the tape in 6.64 seconds.

So. Kevin White of Loyola edged out WSU So. Zack Penrod 1:54.44 to 1:54.48 to win the 800m run with Indiana State Sr. David Timlin at 1:54.50
and UNI Sr. Luke Johnston 1:54.60 right on their heels. You expect those kind of differentials to determine the finish in a spring but that is something else in an 800m run.

Shocks weren't quite at the top of their game in the high jump but Sr. Garrett Lynch and Jr. Austin Chippeaux picked up 7th and 8th place points both clearing 6-8.25. SIU Sr. Kyle Landon outclassed the field with a jump of 7-4.5.

Sr. Zach Loesch kicked in a big 8 points with his 2nd place finish in the shot put.

Sr. Joe Harter missed picking up an 8th place point in the 5k by 0.07 seconds. Another razor's edge miss.

So. Jared Belardo added to his 3rd place finish in the long jump with a winning jump of 51-1.75 in the triple jump. Really great to see Jared back in play as he has not competed in live competition since the 1st meet fo the indoor season due to injury. Not sure he was at 100% for this meet or not as his marks were a little short of his Freshman season bests but he picked up a big 16 points of for the Shocks in these two jumping events.

There are a few event results not yet recorded on the Live Result link (yeah, sure, live results) but it does appear final team scores have been posted and both the Shocker Men and Shocker Women are MVC Indoor Track & Field Champions both winning in very convincing fashion.

Hunter Veith and SIU's Kyle Landon or the Co-Most Valuable Indoor Male Track Athletes this year (for most points scored).

Coach 'Bolt doubles his pleasure winning both the Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Filed Coach of the Year Awards. (Really a coaching staff award IMHO).

Congratulations to Coach 'Bolt and Staff, to Hunter and to all our outstanding 2017 MVC Indoor Track & Field athletes on an outstanding Championship win. Only the 3rd indoor title for the Shocker men.

Hunter Veith's heptathlon score ranks 7th in the nation so far this indoor season.

I've have Hunter scoring 26 points for the Shocker men. As discussed above Jared Belardo came off an injury to contribute 16 points.

Shocker Seniors contributed 43 of their 146 points.

Hunter Veith is competing in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships today and tomorrow in the Heptathlon and in the Long Jump.

Hunter enters the meets with the 7th best heptathlon scoring nationally.

Live Results

After the 1st three events (60m, LJ and SP) Hunter is in 8th place with the High Jump, usually a good event for Hunter remaining in the 1st days events.

Update: Hunter sitting in 9th place after day one. Having a solid meet but a little short of his best effort so far. The 60mH, PV and 1500m tomorrow to complete the competition.

Hunter will warm up for tomorrow's events by participating in the open long jump around 5:30 this evening.

Hunter fouled on his 1st attempt than passed on his next two and failed to make the LJ finals with no mark.

Hopefully, this was a decision to save Hunter's energy for the final 3 heptathlon event tomorrow and not due to an injury.

Hunter with a 5th in the 60mH and a 3rd in the pole vault moves into 8th place with only the 1,500m run to go. Not sure that is Hunter's best event but we'll see what he has left in the tank.

Hunter finishes 11th in the 1,00m run. That drops him back to 9th place, just 1 spot shy of 1st team All-America honors.

Hunter has had a very fine indoor season. Looking forward to what in can door outdoors.
