Ugis Jocis scratched in the the 3K and the Shocks did not score. However, SIU did not score either.

In the 4x400 the Shocks only really needed to finish the race to win the team title. SIU finished 4th but the Shocks were close behind in 5th as the Shocks put the finishing touches on only their 2nd ever MVC Indoor Championship (I believe that is what the announcers said).

      Final Team Scores:
      1. WSU - 141.5
      2. SIU - 132.5
      3. INS - 114
      4. ILS - 88.5
      5. UNI - 84.5
      6. LOY - 39
      7. DRK - 35
      8. BRD - 27

      Congratulations Shocks!

Shocker Freshman Jared Belardo selected as the USTFCCA Midwest Region D-1 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. Shocks apparently have something very special in this young man.

NEW ORLEANS  --  Jared Belardo was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region Division I Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, it was announced by the organization today.

Congratulations to Jared and good luck to him in this weekends NCAA D-1 Indoor T&F Championships in Birmingham, AL. Jared will be the only freshman in the competition.

        :applause:

Here is the list of the 9 regional Field Athlete of the Year winners. Jared is the only Freshman winner. 6 seniors, 1 junior and 1 sophomore account for the other 8 regional winners.

Jared has a 24-1 jump on the board at this point. I think that was his 1sat attempt. In fact, I think I caught that jump on ESPN3 as they were showing the men's mile run.

At this point that has Jared in 6th place.

Update: Jared's 24-1 is now 10th. The top 9 after 3 jumps qualify for a reverse-order final of 3 more jumps. So hopefully Jared has a little better jump left in him.

Final: Jared was unable to improve on his jump of 24-1 and finished 12th. Perhaps not what he was hoping for but considering he was preparing for the Kansas High School state meet last year at this time he has to feel pretty good about finishing 12th in the nation in his first season of indoor jumping.

Great job, Jared. The future would appear to be very, very bright for this young man.

The Shocker's ranking was solely attributable to Jared Belardo.

Jared's 9th place ranking in the Long Jump worth 42 points and a 27th place finish in the Triple Jump was worth 24 points.

Former Shocker Kord Ferguson (redshirted last year at WSU) who transferred to Alabama earned 4 points for his 47th place ranking in the shot put. Of course, Kord's strongest event is the discus which is not an indoor event for obvious reasons.

Javelin should be an indoor event. Just put a huge dart board on the wall and score it that way. @Aargh could oversee implementation.
