The indoor season will kick off on January 9th with a meet at Kansas State. In addition, to KSU, Missouri State, Nebraska-Omaha and Arkansas Pine-Bluff will participate.

This event has already occurred but their fund raising efforts have fallen pretty short. Perhaps some of that is due to a lack of publicity. I am sure they would still appreciate any contributions regardless of amount. I don't do Facebook so thought I would post it here to spread the word a little.

This is one of the best Shocker teams in recent memory as they have depth and balance throughout the roster. Add in a 2nd place (tied) in cross country this fall and the indoor track squad should be one of the teams to beat in the MVC. Indiana St has won the last 3 (I think) MVC Indoor titles so they will probably be the early favorites.

They had their annual Intrasquad Meet in December and will resume the season this weekend (Saturday) in a small meet at Kansas State against the Wildcats and Ark-Pine Bluff. Don't expect WSU to come out with all of their athletes in multiple events as last year they competing sparingly in their first meet back.

If you're making the trip to Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, the field events begin at 11am, running events at 2pm.

Shocker men picked to win the Valley indoor title in the preseason poll but it's close! WSU got 4 first place votes and 60 pts total while Indiana St received 4 1st's as well and totaled 57. Nice to be picked 1st but the margin is very slim over Indiana State. Should make for a very exciting Indoor Championship.

Hopefully, the Shocks will stay healthy and be at full strength come Championship weekend.

The Shocker men had some good results at their season opener Saturday at Kansas State. Like the women, not all of their top athletes competed but most did. Everyone should be competing this Friday at KU.

Best part of the meet for the men was freshman Jared Belardo winning both the Long Jump and Triple Jump at 24-4 and 49-5. These are GREAT early jumps for a freshman and puts him in position to contend for big points in MVC competition.

Another fresman Zack Penrod used a big kick to win the 800m in 1:55, a very nice time this early in the year.

The Shocks went 1-2-3-4 in the hurdles with Jake James and AJ Stephens (another freshman) leading the way. The Shocks are always strong in the hurdles.

The great throwers we have struggled a bit although Taylor Goldsmith did win easily in the Weight with a toss of 64-2. I'm sure these guys will throw better after another week of practice after the break.

Friday they will compete in the aforementioned Kansas Triangular and Saturday will have their 'B' team compete at the Heskett in the Shocker Prelude.

The Shocker men will be in Lawrence Friday to compete in the Kansas Triangular with KU and KSU. Last year the KSU men edged WSU 117-116 with KU 3rd with 105. Hopefully this year the Shocks can turn the tables!

WSU men finish 2nd behind Kansas in the meet. I'm not nearly informed enough to say if it was successful or not for the Shocks, but how about Freshman Jared Belardo?

He goes 15.84 (51.2 feet) in the triple jump and wins his first meet (for reference 15.91 won the Valley last year indoors) and that jump ranks 5th in the country early this season so far.

Just for good measure, he went out and won the long jump too with a leap of 7.49 (24' 7") ranking 1st in the Valley and would have placed him 2nd in the Valley championships indoors. Well done young man!

Pretty good weekend for the Shocker men. KU won the Triangular at home with 126 points. WSU edged KSU for 2nd 110-109. With the rest of the squad, the Shockers were 2nd in the Shocker Prelude at home on Saturday against three non-D1 schools.

Freshman Jared Belardo is becoming a star in only two weeks. He started with a 24-7 to win the Long Jump at KU then came back and bombed a 51-11 to crush the field in the Triple Jump which ranks him as the #2 freshman in the NCAA (#9 overall).

Not to be outdone, Weight thrower Taylor Goldsmith broke his own school record with a toss of 68-1. Taylor also won Saturday and is 3-0 in the early season against some good competition.

Teammate Zach Loesch had a big PR of 56-0 in the Shot Put on Saturday. Good to see the men's throwers in good form so early in the year.

More good performances from freshmen Zack Penrod (1000m) and AJ Stephens (60m hurdles). Both ran fast times and look to be guys who can score in the MVC in late February.

Overall lots of good performances. This is a good men's team for 2016.

Shocker men given some significant attention as they are ranked #5 in the initial Track & Field News National Dual Meet Rankings. We will see if they deserve that ranking this week as they compete at #13 Nebraska Saturday.
