  • USBC Intercollegiate Bowling Championships

    Next week in Reno.

The Shocker guys are ranked No. 6 but it sounds like they have quality depth.

They may need to win this won to keep the Lady Shocks from catching them in terms of National Championships.

The #1 seeded Shocker men were humble by #16 seed Fresno State 4-0 in their opening match on Wednesday moving immediately to the loser's bracket in the double elimination tournament.

They won last night to stay alive.

Today they have two more wins in Round 3 and Round 4 and now face #9 seeded Robert Morris (IL) for the right to face #4 Urbana who is into the Red Bracket finals undefeated. If they get by Robert Morris they will have to beat Urbana twice to make it to the National Championship match on Friday.

    Go Shocks!

I'm not sure but I think the Shocks are up 2-0 on Robert Morris. I know for sure they have won the last 2 games. The last game the Shocks were down by 18 pins after 6 frames but came back to win 193-192 finishing Strike, Strike, Spare, Strike. The Shocks had started in the hole after an open frame in the 1st but an open frame by Robert Morris in the 7th opened the door for the Shocker comeback and they took advantage.

Update: Actually that last match may have been the clincher in the Best of 7 Baker matches. As the Shocks appear to be playing Urbana right now. Really difficult to follow based on the limited info available.

Shocks have open frames in the 4th and the 6th in Game 1 and Urbana looks like they pretty much have Game 1 in hand.

Now the Shocks add an open frame in the 9th. You just won't win many games with 3 open frames. Final score in Game 1:
Urbana 184 - Wichita State 165. To bad because 184 is not a great game.

Another open frame for the Shocks in Game 2, Frame 3. Urbana not making a lot of strikes but they are making all the spares.

Shocks get back into the game with strikes in the 4th and 5th frames then give it back with an open frame in the 6th.

Urbana returns the favor with an open frame in the 6th. The Shocks go strike, strike and 9 count spare in the 7th, 8th and 9th.

Urbana comes back with strikes in 8th and 9th. Urbana now with a turkey as they open the 10th with a strike. Not looking too good for the Shocks.

Urbana wins Game 2 196-185 to go up 2-0. Not much room for error by the Shocks now.

The Shocks open Game 3 with an 8-count open frame and Urbana opens with a turkey. Urbana clearly feeling it now and the Shocks may be pressing. Urbana may have the lane conditions figured out better than the Shocks do.

Now Shocks have an open frame in the 3rd after a spare in the 2nd. For all intents and purposes this game is over.

Shocks with yet another open frame in the 4th. Trail by 51 after 4 frames. Pretty bad.

Believe or not the Shocks have somehow got back in the game and the Shocks lead 153-152 in the 8th and both teams have spared in the 9th. The Shocks had 4 consecutive strikes in frames 5 through 8 and an open frame by Urbana gave them a chance. It will all come down to who wins the 10th frame.

Urbana goes 9-count spare, strike in the 10th to finish at 191. The Shocks go strike, strike, 6-count in the 10th to finish at 199. Shows you what I know (see above). What a tremendous comeback win by the Shocks.

Still a lot of work ahead as they trail 1-2 in games but that Game 3 could certainly change the mental side of this match.

Urbana opens Game 4 strong going strike, spare, strike, spare but it may not be nearly enough as the Shocks open Game 4 with a 6-bagger (is that a double-turkey?).

Urbana has an open frame in the 5th and the Shocks lead by 63 through 5 frames.

              Game 4 goes the Shocks 249 - 150

Hopefully, the Shocks have the lane conditions down at this point. They put 8 strikes on the board in Game 4.

The best of 7 match is now tied at 2-2.

Neither team bowling very well through the first half of Game 5. Both teams feeling the heat perhaps?

Urbana leads 72-71 after 5 frames.

Shockers miss a 1-pin spare in the 7th to give Urbana the advantage late. Shocks trail by 12 after 8 frames.

Urbana leaves the door open with an open frame in the 10th and the Shockers gladly walk through it to rally for a 159-155 win to take a 3-2 lead.

Remember the Shocks have to win this match to force a second bracket finals match with Urbana.

Shocks down big, by 36 pins, after 4 frames in Game 6.

The Shocks narrow the deficit to 14 after 7 frames.

Looks like another game to be determined by the 10th frame.

Couldn't quite complete the big come back in this one. Urbana 194 - Wichita State 190. Match all square at 3 games each.

Shocks win or go home after the next game.

                    Urbana with a solid X, 7/, 8/, X, 9/, X, 9/, X, X, 9/X for a very good 207 in Game 7.

Good effort by the Shocks though because they were just a little better at 223 to win the match and keep their championship hopes alive.

A second best of 7 Baker match is coming up between the Shockers and Urbana. Not sure they can match the drama of this match though. The huge comeback in Game 3 was the key to this match I believe.

Not sure if they stay on these lanes or switch lanes for the next match.

Thanks @RoyalShock:. It does look like they have changed lanes from 25 and 26 to 23 and 24.

@RoyalShock: where did you find the link to the streaming?

Ouch. That 7-10 split in the 8th by the Shocks hurts. They probably need a favor from Urbana in this one.

Shocks give themselves a chance finishing with 4 X in a row.

Urbana misses a 7-pin spare in the 10th and the Shocks prevail 212-194 in Game 1.

Our anchor carried us to a win in Game 1 but cost us a win in Game 2.

Urbana wins 175 -174 in Game 2 to even the match.
