I think Shoxaac could hit most of those fairways. Good news however...I found my driver swing at Auburn yesterday.

Looking at the 2022-23 roster for the Shocker men's golf team it looks like we lost 2 of our top 3 scorers from last year.

Brock Polhill was 2nd on the team with a strike average of 73.41 for last year. He would have been a 5th year senior. Not sure what his story is. Was not listed as a Spring graduate in May 22 or May 21 but perhaps he has graduated mid-year but I don't know that. I can't find where he has transferred so he may just be calling it a college career.

Joe Bultman graduated this past May with a BBA in Management. He was 3rd last year with 73.58 stroke average. He has transferred to Belmont where he has 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Coach Easterling has added 4 signees to this coming year's roster.

Freshman Matthew Sandoz from Great Britain as mentioned above.

He signed to JuCo transfers out of Midland College, JT Pittman and Astin Castillo. Both listed as Juniors on the Shocker roster although I don't know if that is their academic year or their eligibility year. I did not see any stats on the Midland golf web page. However, Pittman won the NJCAA Division 1 individual national championship in a 2 hole playoff against Hutchinson's Dominic Clemons. Pittman shot a 68-74-72-67--281 to get in the playoff making up 4 shots on Clemons in the final round. Pittman birdied both of the playoff holes. As a team MIdland finished 3rd.behind Hutch and Odessa College. Not sure where Castillo fit in on the team. 7 of Midland's players signed scholarships with 4-yr programs (6 with D-1 teams including Memphis). It looks like Castillo was probably their #5 or #6 guy. He was not in the starting 5 for the first two rounds of the National Tournament but he scored 67-75 over the final 2 rounds.

Looks like Pittman might be a guy to compete for a top 5 spot with the Shocks.

Blake Lorenz, out of Peoria, AZ, has transferred to the Shockers after spending 3 uneventful years at OU. He did not see any action his first year. In his 2nd year he played in 1 fall event with a 3-round score of 220 (73.33 stroke average while finishing 33rd). In 2020-21 he saw no action. This past 2021-22 year he again played in the same fall event shooting 231 over 3 rounds (77.0 stroke average while finishing 47th). Lorenz looks to have 2 more years of eligibility remaining.

Leading the returning players for the Shockers will be Sr. Dawson Lewis (73.11 stroke average over 27 rounds/+1.4 vs par), So. Lucas Scheufler (74.45 average over 4 rounds/+2.9 vs par) and So. Michael Winslow (75.25 average over 12 rounds/+3.8 vs par). Winslow did not join the team until the spring semester as true freshman.

It would appear the the most likely player to fill out the top 4 slots will be JT Pittman. If Dawson Lewis can have a solid senior year and the2 sophomores, Lucas Schuefler and Michael Winslow can take a step forward this year and JT Pittman pans out the Shocks could put together an okay foursome. The fifth slot looks like it will be up for grabs and might even be a bit of a carousel from tournament to tournament. Lacking a consistently competitive 5th player puts a lot of pressure on the top 4.

      We'll see how it goes.

I have to admit I don't follow Shockers golf closely, but wasn't HCC (Hutchinson Community College) Charlie Crockett supposed to be joining the Shockers last year? I believe he committed during covid and played another year at Hutch. I even recall his brother Harry was also considering the Shockers. I might be totally confused.

I thought this was a terrfic interview by Coach Easterling. Lot of info and if you like upbeat guys you will love Coach Eassterling.

Did find out that Brock Prohill has decided to give pro golf a shot on the Korn Ferry tour and forego his final year of eligibility.

Looks like Coach Easterling has added a Hutchinson Salt Hawk to his roster next year:

Hutchinson High's Ty Adkins changed his swing. Now he's one of the top Kansas 6A golfers

Looks like Ty finished 2nd in this past year's Kansas Class 6A tournament shooting a 73-70 = 143 one shot behind the winner from Blue Valley West.

It doesn't look like the Shocker sophomore is going to make the cut. After 2 rounds of stroke paly the Top 64 and ties move to match play. Michael has shot 79-74 for a 12-over score of 153. He played round 1 on the par 71 on the Ridgewood Country Club course and round 2 on the par 70 Arcola Country Club course (both in Paramus, NJ). That put him in a tie for 196th in a field of 312 but with players still on the courses. Right now the cutline is at 5-over par. Still, good experience for the Shocker sophomore.

While Shocker sophomore Michael Winslow did not make the cut, Shocker assistant coach Josh Gliege who qualified for the US Amateur about a month ago did make the final 64 shooting 71-73 = 144. The cut line ended up at 146.

In the first round of match play Josh played Pietro Bovari of Italy. Josh was down 2 holes with 3 to play. He won the par 4 16th with a par and won the par 5 17th with a birdie to draw even. He won the par 4 18th with a par to win the match and move on to the round of 32.

Looks like Josh fell 3 and 2 in the Round of 32 to Derek Hitchner, who finished his 4th year at Pepperdine last year. Josh was 2 down after 6 holes but won the 7th with a birdie and the 11th with a par to square the match. However, Hitchner won 3 of the next 5 to finish off the match. Josh shot even par over the 16 holes played.

                  Very nice effort by Josh.

Now he needs to depart some of that talent and knowledge to his proteges on the Shocker's men's team.

Go Shockers - Men's Golf Opens Season at Ram Masters

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Wichita State men's golf team will open the 2022 season the same way they kicked off 2021, with a trip to Fort Collins Country Club for the Ram Masters Invitational on Monday, September 19 and Tuesday, September 20. The Shockers finished in a tie for sixth at last year's event.

Head Coach Judd Easterling has been pleased with the team's culture after intense and competitive team qualifying rounds.

"I was just proud of how hard we competed," Easterling said. "The scores were really good, but everybody got along and was respectful. There was a lot of cheering for each other, a lot of fist bumps. Golf is a gentlemen's game and we saw that through those six rounds. I just stayed out of the way."

The Shockers will have three newcomers in the five-man starting lineup, though all three have collegiate experience. Junior Blake Winslow joins the Shockers after transferring from Oklahoma, while juniors Aston Castillo and J.T. Pittman make their Shocker debut after arriving from junior college powerhouse Midland College. Joining the trio is sophomore Michael Winslow and sophomore Lucas Scheufler, both regulars in the starting lineup for Wichita State down the stretch in the spring. Scheufler led the Shockers by finishing in a tie for 12th at last season's Ram Masters.

The junior transfer from Oklahoma is Blake Lorenz, not Blake Winslow.

                      15 team field: https://results.golfstat.com/public/...team&tid=26813

Very early, but a slow start for the Shocks. The two juco recruits off to a rough start to their D-1 careers. Nerves perhaps?

The Shocks settled down a bit after their first 6 holes at which point there top 4 where 7-over and had them sitting in 14th in the 15 team field. A strong finish however has propelled them up to a tie for 8th place with Gonzaga at the end of round 1 at 9 over par.

Cal State - Fullerton leads at the end of round 1 at 5-over par.

Sophomores Michael Winslow and Lucas Scheufler both shot 1 over par 71. Oklahoma junior transfer Blake Lorenz was close behind with a 2-over par 72. The 2 juco transfers from Midland College, Aston Castillo and defending NJCAA D-1 national champion JT Pittman, shot 75 (+5) and 80 (+10), respectively. With Pittman obviously having the throw away scores. We need those guys to shake that off, especially Pittman, and play better golf in round 2 this afternoon.

Winslow was sitting at 5-over par after a double bogey on #4 which was his 14th hole under the shotgun start format. However, he went birdie, par, eagle, birdie over his last 4 holes for his 71.

Scheufler gathered 12 pars, 4 bogies, a birdie and an eagle for his 71 and Lorenz had 10 pars, 5 bogies and 3 birdies for his 72 and was 1-over on both his first 9 holes and his last 9 holes.

Castillo had 13 pars and 5 bogies. He was 4-over on his first 9 holes but played his final 9 holes in 1-over.

Pittman could just never get it going. He had 9 pars, 8 bogies and a double bogey.

The Shockers had a good, solid 2nd round shooting with the top 4 coming in at even par. That leaves them at 9-over for the tournament but moves them up 6th place. They are 15 strokes behind the leader, host Colorado State who went 9-under in the 2nd round and sit at 6-under for the tournament. Denver, Pacific and TAM-CC are close on the heels of the Shockers.

Sophomore Michael Winslow lead the Shocks in round 2 with a 2-under 68 putting him 1-under for the tournament and in 9th place overall. A very good steady round for Michael. He had 5 birdies and 3 bogies.

Sophomore Lucas Scheufler was unable to follow up his 71 in round 1 as he skied to a 9-over 79 in round 2 and had the throw away score for the round for the Shocks. Lucas had a triple-bogey, a double-bogey and 5 bogies vs only 1 birdie.

Junior Blake Lorenz had his second consecutive 2-over 72. He recorded 4 bogies and 2 birdies.

Junior Aston Castillo improved on his 5-over 75 in round 1 with a solid 1-over par 71 in round 2. He had 4 bogies and 3 birdies.

Junior J.T. Pittman bounced back from his 10-over 80 in round 1 to record 5 birdies vs 2 bogies and a double bogey for a 1-under 69.

Good job by Scheufler's 4 teammates to pick him up in round 2.

The 3rd and final round will be tomorrow. I would like to see all 5 guys play well in the finale. Really good to see J.T. Pittman bounce back strong in round 2. Hopefully, we will see the same from Lucas Scheufler tomorrow.

Because there were 2 round yesterday they employed a shotgun start with all groups teeing off at the same time. Since their is only 1 round today they are starting half the field on the the front nine (hole #1) and half on he back nine (hole #10) with cascading team times.

The Shocks are starting on the front nine which has been much friendlier to them in the first two rounds than has the back nine.

The Shocks had a decent front 9 coming in at 3-under par which puts them at 6-over for the tournament and in 6th place. The Shocks had it to 5-under but bogies on 9 by Aston Castillo and Blake Lorenz dropped them to 3-under on the round.

Despite the closing bogies on 9, Lorenz was at 2 under and Castillo was at 1-under to lead the Shocks heading into the back 9. Michael Winslow and J.T. Pittman both were at even par. Lucas Scheufler was 4-over thanks to triple-bogey on 8 and at this point he is not in the scoring.

On to what appears to be a much tougher back 9.

2 double bogies by Pittman and 1 by Castillo early on the back 9 have put a hitch in the Shocks giddy-up as the balloon to 12-over. Looks like the Shocks will finsih anywhere from 5th to 9th. Only 2 shots separating 5th through 9th.

Host Colorado State tore it up on the front 9 going 1-under to take a commanding lead over the field. CSU's Christoph Bleier birdied the first 6 holes on the front 9,

The Shocks look like they were zoned on on a 6th place finish with a shot at 5th as the were 1 shots behind 5th place San Diego and 2 shots up on 7th place Denver with 4 holes to play, 2 each by Michael Winslow and Aston Castillo. Did not work out well for the Shocks. Winslow, who was a steady Eddy even par through 16 finished double bogey - bogey and Castillo par bogey with the Shocks going from 13-over to 17-over for the Tournament with the Shocks falling to 8th in the 15-team field.

Colorado State won the tournament for the 8th consecutive time pretty much running away form the filed at 17-under.

Blake Lorenz led the Shockers in the final round with a 2-under 68 with 4 birdies and 2 bogies. Michael Winslow had 1 birdie and 1 bogey through the first 16 holes before his double bogey - bogey finish for a 73.

JT Pittman shot a 2-over 72 and was hurt by back-to-back double bogies on 10 and 11.

Aston Castillo played his final 6 holes in 5-over including 2 double bogies and finished the round 5-over for a 75.

Lucas Scheufler also shot a final round 75 hurt by his triple-bogey on #8 after which he had 9 pars and a bogey.

                          For the Tournament:
                          T-23 Blake Lorenz 72-72-68 = 212
                          T-23 Michael Winslow 71-68-73 = 212
                          T-55 J.T. Pittman 80-69-72 = 221
                          T-55 Aston Castillo 75-71-75= 221
                          T-64 Lucas Scheufler 71-79-75 = 225

Granted the Shocks lineup consisted of 2 returning sophomores who played a decent amount last year, 2 juco transfer from MIdland College and an Oklahoma junior transfer who played very sparingly at OU. Even taken that into account I would give the Shockers a grade of C in this tournament. But there were signs that they are capable of better.

As is pretty common with our Shocker golf programs, both men and women, developing quality depth, consistency and mental toughness continues to be the challenge.

Go Shockers - Golfers Trek to Texas to Trinity Forest Invitational

With a loaded 17-team field on the docket, head coach Judd Easterling is eager to see how his group responds to the challenge.

"This event will be a really good test of where we stand early in the season," Easterling said. "It's a very strong field, a championship-style golf course, and we're taking what is right now our top five guys. We have three Texas kids, so there should be a good turnout and they should feel right at home. Excited to get down and hopefully come back with some confidence and be ready to go in our home event at Crestview next week."

The field is highlighted by a bevy of top-50 programs, including Middle Tennessee State (31st in last season's final rankings), Baylor (32nd), New Mexico (38th) and Little Rock (44th), plus American Athletic Conference foes SMU and Houston. SMU has won the event each of the last two seasons, and will be paired with the Shockers. The Mustangs and Shockers are the last group to tee off on Sunday, scheduled for 10:15 am.

For Easterling, Trinity Forest provides an opportunity to test themselves against some of the nation's best.

"It comes down to competing with top-25 schools and believing that they can, knowing that they've reached this level for a reason," Easterling said. "They're not just here by chance. They've earned this. We've got a junior college national champion, a fifth-year guy, so we can compete at the highest level. We just have to go down there and do it."

The Shockers are coming off an eighth place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational to kick off the fall campaign, led by a pair of 23rd place finishes from Michael Winslow and Blake Lorenz. Three of the five members of Easterling's starting lineup were making their Wichita State debut.

The course at Trinity Forest will play as a par-72 at 7372 yards.

"It's a really good golf course in Dallas that has hosted some high level events," Easterling said. "It's a links style, similar to Flint Hills and Terradyne, with similar grass, so we should be in good shape."

The Shockers make just one change to the starting lineup from Fort Collins, with senior Dawson Lewis replacing Lucas Scheufler in the five. Lorenz moves up to the number one spot on the card, with Winslow, Aston Castillo and J.T. Pittman joining Lewis.

Wichita State will tee off from the tenth hole to open play. Fans can follow live scoring via golfstat.

Day 1 is over and after 36 holes the Shocks find themselves in a 3-way tie for 14th ahead of only La Tech in the 17 team field with a 2-round total of 9-over par. In absolute terms that doesn't sound too bad but the Shocks are 24 strokes behind the leader, Little Rock.

The Shocks trail current and future conference mates SMU (both the A & B teams, Houston, UTSA, FAU, and North Texas.

Juco transfer Adam Castillo led the way for the Shockers with a 1-under par 71-72 = 143 effort which is tied for 18th best in the tournament; Blake Lorenz is 3-over at 75-72 = 147; Michael Winslow is 4-over at 72-76 = 148; J.T. Pittman is 8-over at 77-75 = 152; Senior Dawson Lewis is 9-over at 72-81 = 153 as he imploded in the 2nd round.

J.T. Pittman had the throw away round on the first 18 and Dawson Lewis on the 2nd 18.

The Shocks could easily move up with a good final round tomorrow as they are with in striking distance of about 7 teams that are ahead of them.
