Tell me how to coach this stuff?

These guys last night could barely execute putting on their uniforms.
If you thought these guys could barely execute putting on their uniforms last night, I'm surprised they didn't come on the court in the buff against Mo St. Nevertheless, players will always make mistakes and do dumb things. Hopefully, you try to coach things in a way to reduce the likehood.

However, the above things are not what bother me the most. I'm more concerned with a veteran team, at home, playing a lesser opponent who isn't playing that well and we only score 20 points in 20 minutes in the second half. Why teams, game after game, continue to successfully dribble drive the lane. You get those two big items figured out, I don't think the things you mentioned will bother anyone much.

I had a later thought. Who is the most important player in close game? The point guard. Matt B was hurt in year one. Clevin was new to the program in year two and undersized in both years two and three. This year the PG situation is still unsettled. The point guard issues would most certainly contribute to late game execution problems in close contests. Just look at the MSU game.

Getting ready to watch a little Sports Sunday. Anybody remember during basketball season how Turgeon used to always have the "Sunday Sitdown" spot with the Bruce. I wonder why Marshall never got on board with that?

Here's the latest, players getting two days off after last night's game. I'm sure we need to critique this decision.

The MOST, UNI, and ISU game are prompting this particular post. Do you think that our opponents teams are being properly Scouted before we play them? And, after being scouted, are the coaches working to stop the opponents offensive plays and sets?

When I see our opponents run the same play 4-5 times without us being able to stop it, it makes me wonder?

                    Discuss!

I, also, think that our team is easy to Scout? Basically, all 3 seemed determined to keep the ball out of the hands of Durley, who usually can score from the inside. They didn't seem to worry about Stutz near as much as they worried about Durley.

So, was the team properly prepared to play these 3 games before the games or not?

I don't know that it's a bad idea, I know I need two days off after that game.

I think it may have something to do with the stat that >70% of teams lose after an overtime game in NCAA college basketball. As I commented in the prediction thread I have this recollection of Kennedy commenting on such a matter a season or three ago. (I hate getting old).

It definitely was. Usually Coach Marshall is the type to get his point across loud and clear, and this was a stop sign that couldn't be missed. My first thought was, "Well D-Will must have been thinking, I just saw Marshall throw up the stop sign. Surely my defender saw that same sign and thinks I'm gonna stop. I should pull the ole okie doke and trick him." Maybe that is what it was . . . :)

                              Maybe it was a ruse?

The guard comes toward the bench with the ball, being closely guarded of course .. then .. the coach puts up the stop sign and loudly yells: SLOW DOWN!! PATIENCE! The guard starts to act like he is gonna check up and wait for the rest of the squad, which causes the defender to relax and then: BANG the guard goes to hole and we WIN THE GAME!!!!!

Damn that came together so nicely in my brain.

Unfortunately it was more like this ...

The guard comes toward the bench with the ball, being closely guarded of course .. then .. the coach puts up the stop sign and loudly yells: SLOW DOWN!! PATIENCE! The guard starts to act like he is gonna check up and wait for the rest of the squad, which causes the defender to relax and then: BANG the guard goes to hole and gets forced outside, dribbles off his leg, dives for the ball which is skipping toward the out-of-bounds line, bounces off two cheerleaders and slams right into the goal post nearly knocking himself unconscious, causing a turnover that nearly cost us the game and embarrasses the coach.

I love DWill though -- other than that boneheaded play he's my PG for the next two years and I couldn't be more happy.
