No, Aargh, I'm not going to start being critical of the play. As a fan, if I can't be extremely happy with a game like that and nit pick, well...that would just be in bad taste. However, I'm sure HCGM will find something.

This team has had some real explosive bursts, but tonight, they did it for an extended period of time. The Shocks scored 47 points in 14:00 minutes late in the second half and started the game with 17 points in the first 5:30. That's two extented periods totaling almost a half a game where they out-scored Evansville 64-24. Plus no real scoring droughts. I thought the players moved without the ball as well as I've seen so far this season.

Five guys in double figures with 12 scoring. The bench was great tonight. Ben not only scored 16 points in 16 minutes, but he also shut down Ryan when he replaced a foul-troubled Hatch who had shut Ryan out. JRag played very controlled, didn't get but one assist, but ran the team well. I thought he also played very aggressive and effective D. DWill improved as well. I was most impressed with his play during the last of the game. Playing with the walk-ons and the end of the bench, he could have tried to be the scoring show, but he didn't. He played a pass first PG and ended the night with 5 assists.

Murry had an excellent overall game with 7 assists and only 2 TOs in 24 minutes, scored 10 points going 5-6 FGs. JT also choose his shots well going 5-7 FG including 2-2 from 3 AND 3 assists. Ellis only had 4 points tonight, but lead the team with 6 rebounds. Gabe added some offense to his rebounding with 7 points.

Ellis and Blair had Ryan most of the night, and it was a total mismatch.

Anytime you shoot layups, dunks and open 3s, I sure hope we shoot near 60%.

I don't offense was anything spectacular. The defense, however, was nails for most of the 40 minutes.

THAT'S Championship defense. Play like THAT and everything else takes care of itself.

Colt Ryan probably scores 2500-3000 points in Division II....where he belongs with the rest of the team.

Welcome to the season Demetric.....very nice to see you. You are still very, very fast.

Joe Ragland is going to be very good. He still doesn't have the offense, but he's a gamer, and dude can score off the bounce.

    Ben Smith

We get nothing from Hatch and Stutz....and win by 30+. Popular opinion had UE challenging to escape Thursday. That is NOT going to happen.

By the way, it means NOTHING if we can't carry this forward to Saturday night against Bradley.

Absolutely, Doc!! For this team to be truly successful, they need to take this showing on the road.

I should have mentioned in guarding Ryan, it was at the beginning of the game that Hatch started on Ryan, then Smith had him until he was rested. I believe Ellis and Blair took over then. Nevertheless, Colt Ryan didn't score his first points until 6:34 left in the first half, much of which was Hatch and Smith's doing.

I also give credit to the Shocks for their active movement and quicker passing than usual. I believe that lead to a lot of those layups, dunks and open 3s.

The Shocks played great, but it is only one game against the team picked to finish last, although Bradley and SIU may have something to say about that.

IF we play that way every game then make room in the trophy case. HOWEVER, we know that we will probably not play that well in every game. OTOH, it is nice to know we have a game like that in us.

At this point the Shocks are 1-0 with a home win over a team they should have beaten easily. So from that standpoint the Shocks have done nothing special at this point.

Missouri State with a big road win over UNI and Creighton with a road win over Illinois State had more significant wins than did the Shocks.

3G now needs to make sure last night's performance translates into confidence while at the same time avoiding over-confidence.

On to Bradley which is another game the Shockser should win. I loved the way they imposed their will on Evansville. Looking forward to see if they can do the same to another bottom-feeder on the road.

Does anyone have any idea why E.O. played only 8 minutes last night?

Not enough minutes for too much depth.

I thought he played an appropriate amount of time. Evansville was going small (looked like 4 guards) most of the time. And I think Marshall wanted to try and get Stutz going a little bit, while giving EO some time. It's still a lot more time than he got in the LSU and Tulsa games.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

BTW, I thought Shocker Fans brought it for the Evansville game.

I was actually a little surprised that we had a sell-out for Evansville and the energy level was very good even after the Shocks had put the game away with 6 minutes remaining.

Let's make this our minimum standard for support and energy.

Call me crazy, but I think Ryan is way over rated.

He is a very fine jump shot shooter and free throw maker.

If you set his shot making aside, he does little else well. He is not athletic. He does not create shots. He does not cut hard off screens, he does not thread double screens well, he does not rebound, he does not guard well, etc.

He will probably make all conference.

Colt Ryan = Blake Ahearn. Good shooter, that's about it. Also, had it not been for Hatch being in foul trouble all night, Smith wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to have a career night. It was good to see DWill get back on the court as well - we need him to be a factor this year.

Excellent atmosphere last night. Valley play is another animal.

Without seeing the game yet looking through the boxscore I see Stutz with no shots and 4 fouls in 9 minutes. Was this just a case of another typical foul-troubled outing for Stutz? We need more consistent minutes from him in order for this team to reach its potential this season. On the surface that appeared to me to be the most disappointing story in the boxscore.

Stutz did not play poorly at all, he just didn't get engaged because there were 7 other thoroughbreds in front of him rocking the house.
