  • Technology upgrade at the Chuck

Thinking about all the problems with WiFi and phone connectivity reminds me of how frustrating it is NOT to have more "high tech" options available to me at home games.

For instance, do I really need a mimeograph copy of a wordperfect stat sheet in a pile of paper in the SASO room to get decent updates at halftime?

A guy like Rosewood is so more skilled and knowledgeable than I it's not even funny, but it can't be THAT hard to get some of these things done.

Just curious what some of you think here. I listed one price that I thought might be enough to make it worthwhile but not enough to scare many people away. It's just my opinion so if I'm off base, let me know about it in the thread.

Honestly if it doesnt already have it they need to upgrade it immediately. And really to know extra cost.

I haven't tried in the arena, but I've been able to get the radio podcast on my HTC EVO via the internet.

Came in handy when I had a family Christmas event in Tulsa during the LSU game.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

They actually use a Xerox for those half-time stats, so it's not QUITE as outdated. I have a nephew who recently got his Masters in Sports Admin from WSU. One of his jobs was to make those copies for the SASO room (they also go to the coaching staff).

The experience at WSU did pretty well for my nephew. He's the SID at Newman now (first year out of WSU).
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I thought you were a well grounded young man.

          "Stats emailed" ?

I'm sorry, but we are going to wait until later in the 21st century, before we actually move into it. Low and slow.

Listen to shockerradio from the office live on Droid X to catch pregame on mountain time drive home. Walk in to the house and click on desktop with no interruptions. All they would really need is a few wifi spots around the arena and enough bandwith out to handle allo the goobs plugged in. In the big picture I wouldn't imagine this to be expensive. But, Doc, you are right. An app would be handy with live stats, chat and maybe suellentrop plugged in would be handsome. Probably some issues with broadcast rights and what not along with bureaucratic inertia prevent this from happening.

WSU has one of the most premier network engineering programs in the country in their Electrical and Computer Science department. They could have that place be the most kick-butt wifi spot in the country, probably for FREE, if they just ask the right people.

I vote we put Kung Wu in charge of this project.

I'm too lazy, but the EECS department has run Cisco's first prep lab for at least five years, kicking out the best network engineers in the country:

Koch Arena could be a showcase for high-tech arenas on a dime, IMHO.

How about a live blogg from HCGM during the game?

That would be great, he could even let us know what play they were going to run next!

Maybe he could taked advice from all of the experts on this forum during the game.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

An LED Ribbon display at the very top of the arena going all the way around... That would be sick.

Or in lieu of that, a new scoreboard similar to what SIU just installed with their new reno of SIU Arena:

Or a more modern lighting system, which allows for the Shockers introductions to be held in the dark.

Keeping the basketball events there 'State of the Art' would be an athletic dept. concern, and since we the public, the fans, don't get any real feedback on what the Athletic Department is doing, I think we shall just remain in the dark on this.

LOL ... We need a 'State of the Art' Athletic Director. He passed me up in the halls a week or so ago at a game, and said, 'Hi', but was gone before I could think to ask him anything.

Basketball events are, IMO, the premier events for WSU, and should be given every consideration to keep them being the best.
