Summary: Auburn declares Cam Newton ineligable on Tuesday, tells no one. Wednesday the NCAA declares him eligable and everyone goes "Huh?" because again, no one knew that for 24 hours he was ineligable.
The NCAA decided that Cam Newton's father was trying to do pay for play but Cam shouldn't be punished because he didn't know anything about it.
There are a lot of things wrong with this story but that last bit is what has really gotten me angry.
The NCAA is saying that because Cam had no control over the violation and no knowledge of the violation, he won't be punished. Tell that to this guy:
Last year Clev had no knowledge of his paperwork violation. He had no control over the situation. However Clev had to sit out 3 games (and the coaching staff held him from the Newman game in hopes that they could get that one to count), so basically 1/12th of the 36 total
But of course this is WSU and Clev wasn't in the running for the player of the year nor was WSU going to take on Duke for the national title last year. So bam, 3 game suspension.
I know Clev's story isn't unique. In fact, I know the NCAA has a track record like this so I shouldn't be surprised. I guess I am not surprised.
But my hate for the NCAA grows even more. (College football was already dead to me so no change there).
