If we agree to bring back football I think the WAC would jump at taking us. It would probably not be that much of a downer basketball wise and I would expect us to dominate in that sport. I can't say I'm excited about it.

The WAC is looking less and less desirable for basketball. USU appears to be the only decent one left if I remember correctly from the Off Topic Forum

La. Tech and NMSU aren't horrible. Forgot them. Not sure how strong that would make it though.

          IMHO:
The MVC with tougher scheduling requirements > MWC > CUSA > MVC without scheduling mandate.
There needs to be a commitment from the bottom valley schools to toughen up their scheduling, since the case study is out there that it's in the conferences best interest to do so. If they refuse, I would like to see us entertain our options for joining other leagues. Hopefully if a move were made, Bradley and Creighton would join us. At the very least, an alliance with those valley teams that are committed to strong programs can threaten to leave the league as leverage to get the scrubs of the league to pull their head out of their butts.

The WAC sucks big green donkey dongs; that would be a terrible move.

Let's hear some solutions insteady of whiny, school-girl complaints.

Do you believe he would have been a bad AD just in general?

I would agree now he wouldn't be a viable choice since he's to old and doesn't even have enough energy to even keep the baseball program on top of the MVC.

                What?

Shockers have won 6 conference championships and 7 conference tournaments since 2000.

At any time is his career, do you really see Gene Stephenson hiring good coaches in the other sports or having a vision beyond baseball?

I think even some of his baseball mgt. judgment should be questioned, given the money spent on a stadium that is too big.

What has he done to demonstrate he would be a good administrator?

They have finished outside 1st place 4 out of the last 6 years in the fracking MVC. A conference that doesn't even pretend to care about baseball anymore.

                      Dayton

There is 8 right there, with solid basketball programs/cities/fanbases to facilitate a good conference. Am I wrong somewhere? I may be because I am just doing this off the top of my head. Maybe MSU or ISU red would still join and keep their 1-AA football in another conference.

                      Just brainstorming..
Xavier and Dayton would very quickly join forces with the Big East and the other A-10 schools without football... its a much greater population which equals more advertising $ which is all that matters...

Dayton and Butler do have football programs, although it is the FCS Pioneer. Xavier won't happen, Dayton maybe, if Butler's involved (even add Cleveland St if it would help get Butler/Dayton). I see no way the Big East would add Dayton, maybe Xavier, but they would have to jettison some long standing member.

A number of teams in the FCS play in football only type leagues. Even Temple from the A-10 plays football in the Mid-American. I'd add Valley teams Mo St and Ill St to the above list.

You were right about Dayton, my mistake, Xavier does not have football at an NCAA level, just club level.

As for those schools joining the debunked Big East schools without football, perhaps that is true, depending on the number of schools ect.
