It is my understanding that both Cincinnati and Louisville are loosing more money in the Big East than they did in C-USA. I heard Cincinnati lost 5 million on football last year and both schools have had to raise tuition to cover the higher cost. My source is ESPN radio, so I don't know how factual it is. If anyone has some hard numbers I would love for them to be posted.

As the whole realignment debacle displayed, The Big XII doesn't care about increased competition. It cares about increased leverage in a TV deal by adding larger TV markets. TCU does not deliver Dallas - UT does.

The only schools that make any sense are Arkansas, BYU, Memphis, Air Force, or New Mexico. Jerry Jones wants a conference championship game, and he wants it at JerryDome.
The Purple Wrath shall cometh.....and that right soon.

I can understand Arkansas, and somewhat BYU, but can not understand your desire for Memphis, Air Force, or New Mexico.

the biggest problem for wsu is their arent a lot of schools in this part of the country without football. The A-10 and Big East schools that dont have football could very easily eventually form a pretty nice basketball league. the valley would do well to add SLU, maybe oral roberts, or other teams of that nature.

Did you all miss University of Denver joining the WAC about a week ago? A western school without football has entered an FBS conference. Now, there is a precedent for it to happen.

I'd really like to know if ADES and the Shocker admin are shopping us around.

That would mean somebody has a vision for athletics and wasn't content to be a yes man for the mvc.

I remember once when lutz threw out the idea that gene Stephenson would make a great AD. For wsu. I think he was right.

Stephenson would be a terrible AD.

And exactly what conference should WSU move to?

The WAC sucks big green donkey dongs; that would be a terrible move.

Let's hear some solutions insteady of whiny, school-girl complaints.

The WAC would suck, however if the MWC were possible it'd be worth looking into.

Football would potentially open doors elsewhere.

Otherwise, the Valley needs to look at itself and figure out what to do. I wish they'd bring back the scheduling mandate.

I have always thought that there were enough schools in the Midwest area that did not have a football program, but had a good basketball program, where there could be a decent basketball conference formed from it. At least better than the MVC at its current state.

                            Wichita State
                            Bradley
                            Creighton
                            Xavier
                            Butler
                            ORU
                            St. Louis
                            Dayton

There is 8 right there, with solid basketball programs/cities/fanbases to facilitate a good conference. Am I wrong somewhere? I may be because I am just doing this off the top of my head. Maybe MSU or ISU red would still join and keep their 1-AA football in another conference.

                            Just brainstorming..

Speaking merely as an Internet goober who has tied his allegiance to a Big XII school, I have no desire per se for Memphis, Air Force, or New Mexico. But if the calculus indicates that the only way to remain a viable conference is to have twelve members that field at least a middling product in both football and basketball and (more importantly) bring a top 50 TV market OR simply more viewers with them, then from a regional point of view the selection is extremely limited. Memphis is a top 50 TV and brings a known quantity in basketball, and expands the conference eastward. Ditto with Cincy, should have had them on the list. Air Force is a specialized entity with national recognition to a certain degree as a service academy. Plus, would probably deliver the Colorado Springs TV market, DMA 94. New Mexico has a horrid football program and a good basketball program, much like Lawrence. But Albuquerque is within striking distance of most members of the conference and is also a top 50 TV market (DMA #44).
Colorado couldn't deliver the Denver TV market, and Colorado State certainly couldn't either. Utah would have been a nice fit, and BYU's no playing on Sunday thing might case a few scheduling headaches. But that's why mid-level athletic department stooges get paid the big bucks, right?
